Right in the centre of Grasmere, so you can park up and leave the car for a couple of day's walking. We had a standard double room, slightly tired decor but great spa bath and a view of the fells, and it was lovely to relax in the bath after climbing some of them! Good breakfast, smoked haddock a winner; comfy lounge; pleasant staff. High quality beer in the Lamb inn too. Husband loved the pool, steam room etc.

Stayed for a 4 day short break here, enjoyed a very leisurely time around Grasmere which is so quiet at this time of year. The hotel was warm, very comfortable and the food at both breakfast and evening meal was excellent.
The restaurant staff are especially to be complimented on their good and friendly service.
The pool and jacussi were ideal for dealing with the stress of so many tea shop outings!!

Partner and I went for a 2 night break. It was my first visit to this hotel and I would recommend anyone to try it. Yes it has faults like any hotel but the staff are a credit to Best Western. They are friendly, courteous and polite. The rooms are clean spacious although slightly dated. The Lamb Inn next door do a wonderful array of bitters and bar food. The hotel breakfast is typical of a hotel but served by a courteous and attentive team. I would have no hesitation in returning again.

stayed for a weekend, very well situated hotel, even managed to park. Because of its location we were able to leave the car, there are plenty of walks from the door and grasmere has plenty to offer even in the winter. It's a coffee shop haven. The hotel room was very nice and roomy and the bathroom was lovely. We used the spa and pool which was a nice edition to our stay. Breakfast for me was very good as i like continental there was lovely fresh fruit and very nice ham. The staff were very nice. No complaints would happily stay again

Stayed for 2 nights in a family room with 2 adults/2 children, room had an adjoining childrens room which was a bonus. Staff very friendly and helpful especially front of house. Swimming pool and spa lovely addition and kept the children amused. Breakfast was good and served promptly. Didnt eat evening meal in main hotel restaurant but ate in Lambs Inn next door which again was nice and plenty of it.

After reading other peoples reviews the night before we set of for the first part of our honeymoon at the Red Lion Hotel, I was a little disheartened, however we had a mixed stay at this hotel.
The parking is not good, when we arrived we got parked ok, and again ok on the second day but by the third day we had nowhere to park and had to pay at the car park down the road. The parking ran out at 8.50pm the next morning which meant my husband had to go and put more money in the machine until the we left.
The reception staff were helpful and friendly on our arrival and throughout our stay, as were the other hotel staff.
The room was just big enough for our needs, it was clean, fresh and had a great view over the back of the hotel out towards the hills. The bathroom was an odd shape and quite small and needed some form of small shower door or curtain as every time you showered it leaked on the floor.
I used the gym on one occasion and this was small, the treadmill was old and the type you would have at home. My partner used the swimming pool which he found ok.
The downside was the speed of the service in the restaurant, if it had only been on one occasions I could of accepted it but having to wait 25 mins for one cooked breakfast and a bowl of porridge was a little tiring by the third morning! We also had a meal one night in the restaurant and again the service was slow but not quite as bad as breakfast. There was plenty of staff in the restaurant most of the time up to 4 staff, but it seemed to be the preparation of the food, as much of the time the staff seemed to be in and out of the kitchen. As other reviewers have already stated the staff made excuses that they were busy in the restaurant, but this is not the customers problem it’s the hotel’s and they really need to sort this as it spoils the review of the hotel.
Would highly recommend ‘Tweedies’ which is at the Dale Hotel just around the corner, expensive but the food and drink was really really really good!
