Being a bit of an old codger the first thing I noticed was the relative youth of the staff on parade here but that can go either way and what you get here is a pretty energetic and enthusiastic bunch.

I'd made a bit of an error in my booking but the lady on reception handled it within a couple of minutes with no fuss and bother.

Didn't have dinner there but had breakfast and it was a very good quality and was cooked fresh but very quickly.

Niggles:-

The double beds aren't terribly big ( ours was a pull down bed by all appearances) and the room was slightly too warm.

Car parking is a bit of a nightmare as well...we got a space but it was a tight squeeze.

Good value though and in a nice setting with pleasant staff so there's no way I'd mark it average.

This was our fifth stay at the Red Lion, based in the heart of beautiful Grasmere Village.
It never fails to please. In fact, one of the best things is that you can always expect friendly service and comfortable surroundings.
Our room looked as though it had been given an uplift so all very bright and clean. The breakfasts are amazing especially the veggie sausages.
One of the most appealing aspects is the gloriously comfy lounge where you can order drinks or snacks. It is so welcoming at the end of the day. Not many hotels in the village have this facility.
You can bet we will be back.

Booked a late two night stay over the Easter weekend fairly late and got B and B for £96 a night which considering i thought wasn't too bad. Arrived mid afternoon and got parked straight away, i can however understand why people could be aggrieved at not finding a parking space as there didn't seem any policing of it by the staff, but like i said i had no complaints.

Check in was a breeze, all i had to do was sign. The room was located on the second floor but there is a lift for the coffin dodgers. The room while certainly not the best i've stayed in, it was certainly not the worst. It was a good size and very clean, what more do you want? The bed however was a tad small and a bit lumpy.

We tried the pool and sauna which were fine.

Didn't eat in the restaurant but did try the ales and i can thoroughly recommend the Black Sheep.

Ate in Tweedies bar both nights and the food was excellent.

All in all, its a canny joint.

We have previously stayed in this hotel and we were overwhelmed by the standards and facilities the hotel offered.

On arrival the staff in reception were very friendly and helpful as they had been on a previous visit.

We did some walking around the lakes, and returned to the Lamb Inn for our evening meal and drinks. The lads on the bar were really helpful and friendly, it was noted that the bar was quite busy, but the service and efficiency were spot on. The food was great as it was on our previous visit and although it was very busy the tables were kept clean and tidy at all times.

A lovely quaint, stylish hotel with lots to offer everyone from dog lovers to ardent walkers.
Friendly helpful staff, stylish rooms and comfortable king sized beds, there is also a small leisure centre with a lovely pool, steam room and sauna, just what you need help you relax and chill out, before dining in the delightful restaurant which serves a tasty and varied menu. The loung area and bar are beautifully clean and well kept with lots of information available regarding the local area and the conservatory is just the place to enjoy a coffee or a drink before bedtime.

Spent 3 nights a the Red Lion with friends. The location of the hotel is great, as is the village of Grasmere. The hotel has gradually added more rooms over the years but has not kept up with the parking space. Following the instructions on our booking confirmation we asked the advice of the reception staff when we couldn't park, all we got was a shrug and we were told the hotel didn't have enough parking. The food was good and the restaurant staff friendly and helpful. The public areas of the hotel are excellent with plenty of space and seating. The pool area is lovely with a decent sized pool which you can actually swim in. If you are paying extra for a club room beware as these rooms vary greatly. Some are fabulous, spacious light and airy with good bathroom and great views. Some are not!!!

Right in the centre of Grasmere, so you can park up and leave the car for a couple of day's walking. We had a standard double room, slightly tired decor but great spa bath and a view of the fells, and it was lovely to relax in the bath after climbing some of them! Good breakfast, smoked haddock a winner; comfy lounge; pleasant staff. High quality beer in the Lamb inn too. Husband loved the pool, steam room etc.
