“Lovely character hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2011

We arrived early but were allowed to check in and use facilities while we waited for our room te be made ready.
Pub next door very good for food and drink.
Parking is at a premium in busy times.
We found the location well served by local buses so tended not to use the car which we left at hotel .

This little hotel, in the center of the village of Grasmere, has everything needed for a good stay. They had a leak in the center of the lobby where water was caught in a plastic tub, but other than that, there was no much else wrong. The lounge area was very nice and we had a good time drinking wine and reading there in the early evening. The rooms were average, but comfortable. The village was great for shopping and walking around. We also did some laundry in their facilities which was handy and the boys had a fine time in the pool area. A nice stay.

Stayed here for 3 nights and was recommended by a Market traded in Peterborough . The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean and tidy. Food was good. Did not exceed my expectations for the money but did not disappoint. Only gripe was parking as it's limited and can be blocked in. Would I come here again? Yes cos i would be playing it safe. Not much going on in grasmere for someone in there 30's but acts as a go between for keswick and Windermere.

We visited this hotel with friends for a two night bed and breakfast weekend break, after enjoying a similar stay in 2010. Once again we found the hotel staff to be very welcoming and they provided great service at reception and in the restaurant.. The hotel has a very traditional feel to it with a large and comfortable lounge and bar area. Access to the adjoining Lamb Inn, can be obtained directly from the reception area. Very good bar meals and beer are served at the Lamb Inn. We had a large double room which was very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The ensuite bathroom was very disappointing and although clean, the decor was tired and dated. We discovered that the bathrooms on the third floor had been refurbished, but we were unfortunately on the floor below. The weather was warm but the heating in the room was kept far too high making the room quite hot. We did not try the evening meal this year as we found the restaurant to be lacking in atmosphere, although the food served is good.
The breakfast was excellent, providing the full english along with cereals, fruits and continental preferences.
The hotel does not provide sufficient parking spaces, compared to most other hotels in the village. This is due to the central location of the hotel which is probably the oldest in Grasmere, and not located within its own grounds.
The hotel has a small health club and the swimming pool is well worth trying out.
Despite the bathroom we thoroughly enjoyed our stay once again, and will probably return next year.

Room Tip: Ask for the third floor where bathrooms are new.

This is a Best Westeern Hotel, complete with an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, small gym and it's own pub! To the right of the reception area is a massive guest lounge where you can while away the time relaxing with your book and a drink (yes, there's a small bar in there too!) The pub serves up good pub grub and puddings with a friendly atmosphere, where locals bring in their dogs too. Next to the pub is the restaurant where you can eat an sumptious evening meal and go for your breakfast. Breakfast was amazing, complete with kippers, smoked haddock, mackeral, assortment of cereals, cheeses, breads, and the "standard" full English breakfast. Our room for clean and had 2 armchairs and a kingsize bed, and the bathroom had an extra long bath. We paid 96 pounds for bed and breakfast. You can pay extra for the evening meal if you include it in your b and b payment, which in hindsight would have been worth it once I had seen the menu. Perfectly located for all the Wordsworth places, and some incredible hikes, and also Grasmere Lake.

When I booked my club room I was advised that all of these type of rooms has been refurbished and looked like the rooms on the hotels website so I booked up and paid £144b&b. When I arrived and got to my room I was shocked; the rooms were dated, with poor furnishings and in desperate need of an update, the bathroom was not much better.

I went to reception to ask if I'd been given the right room and she explained that what I had was better than some of the other rooms and that only 10 of the rooms has been refurbished. I said that I was unhappy and thought that the rate paid didn't meet the standard but she said there was nothing else she could do.

We then asked for a refund and check out. Be warned if booking for the first time the standard of the rooms do not reflect the website.

We were so looking forward to our stay and this hotel was so disappointing.
