We have just returned from a few days stay at the red lion on the wine dine and unwind offer, tea and scones on arrival and champagne in your room excellent value for money. The new chef has settled in and provides a varied menu with good sized portions, staff in the dining room coped admirably even though the restaurant was full and there was a party of ten and a couple of fours. Reception were extreemly helpful nothing was too much trouble. The room was a high standard of cleanliness with towels changed daily. We will be returning again in the near future to be wined dined and to unwind. Thankyou to all staff once again for making it a lovely stay.

Room Tip: ask for a top floor room

Stayed only for one night but memorable for all the right reasons. Comfortable bed and spotless bathroom, had no problems with the heat of the room as previously mentioned. Made use of the pool and hot tub, which was very relaxing and perfect after a long drive. Good vegetarian choices on the restaurant set menu for both dinner and breakfast. Courteous and friendly staff made for an excellent stay. Would visit again.

Booked three rooms for a family celebration, one dog friendly, one baby friendly and one for a couple. At reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. Rooms were lovely and had all that is required for a relaxing weekend. Breakfast was informal, cooked and presented beautifully.Dinner in the restaurant was also very pleasant.
The pub adjoined to the hotel was very welcoming and food and drink again to a high standard. The whole family also used the pool which was very clean and welcoming. Altogether the experience of the hotel was ideal for our weekend. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the location is superb as there are small shops/tea shops and great opportunities for walking and exploring the lakes.

We stayed at the Red Lion for our half term break on a wine and dine break. The room was very comfortable and clean throughout our staff if a little hot! We left the windows open permanently whilst we were there.

The food in the restaurant was of a good standard with plenty to eat. The staff were very friendly and provided a good speedy service at all times.

Overall the facilities were great and we thoroughly enjoyed a very comfortable stay in the heart of the Lakes. Great Slye for money. Thank you.

Very poor. I have stayed here before, and didn't have any problems, so was surprised at the following:
Dirty, mouldy bathroom.
No clean towels during a 2 night stay.
Wifi not working.
I called about these issues but nothing was done to resolve them.

Also, be aware, you can't get breakfast before 8 - not much good for anyone working, or out for a long day on the fells.

Waited 20 minutes and still couldn't get a receipt on checkout. ( My colleague couldn't check out at all, as the reception was not staffed at 7.15 am)
All in all, very disappointing. I would have liked to share my feedback with someone before posting a bad review, but the lady who helped me check out said she wasn't meant to be working on reception and was only helping out as someone hadn't turned up. So thanks again to her for trying - shame no-one else during my stay.

After visiting Grasmere in Aug , we decided to stay here for our half term hike round the lakes .
On arrival we were extremely happy with the car parking & the leisure activities the hotel offers.
When entering our room , the room was average for a family room ( 2 adults ,1 x child ) but it was the gust of heat that attacked you when opening the door. No problem we thought so we checked the heaters ( it was the end of Oct bear in mind ) & opened the windows . Then we noticed the large fan in the room. Was this a sign ! Well yes because our room turned out to be next to the laundry & after asking the receptionist about the heat levels , I was informed that this would be lower after 9pm. After returning from dinner , the heat was still evident & so we left the windows open all night & turned the fan on.The sleep was like the time we stayed in Turkey years ago with no air con !!!! After breakfat the next day I investigated why the heat blows through the room. It turns out the hotel has extractor fans that suck air in from the laundry room into your room so you have hot air all night . So if you stay on the 1st floor in this hotel dont leave the fan on after going to the toilet . Now some smart alecs are probably thinking " why do you need the fan on " ,well you cant switch the light on without this . Once this was sorted ( by myself I may add !! ) the sleep was really good with the beds really comfortable.

The breakfast is rather good too but the dining room is SO QUIET !!!! I mean people whisper when talking to each other over the table !!! The staff are great mind & have a laugh about this .

The hotel bar area is great to wind down after a day out ,where there was complimentary coffe & tea . Really nice .

All in all the hotel is great but surely Best Western can sort the heat extraction problem.

Room Tip: Dont book a room on the 1st floor .
