“will definately stay again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

just stayed for 1 night as was a stop gap on the way to Scotland, Had standard double room was basic but very clean and value for money, the hotel overall was very clean and the great thing about it having the Pub The Lamb ajoining, great atmosphere and good food and drink.Didn't take advantage of the Spa but will definately stay again for a couple of nights as the village was quaint with a few nice shops and restaurants to explore.

Room Tip: i would opt for a exec room as standard double a bit small.

Stayed last week for 2 nights at the red lion and it was fantastic, staff could not be more helpful, we ate in the bar at the hotel and the food was fantastic and the portions were enormous. The other guests at the hotel were very friendly too. Overall break was brilliant and we will definitely be back... Thanks again for making our stay so good despite the freezing weather...

Room Tip: we were in room 220 and it had a great view over the small village also had dual aspect windows was...

We spent two nights at the hotel last weekend. The moment we got there, we ordered a beer for him and a coffee for me from the bar, before booking in. The staff were very cheerful and friendly and brought our dog a bowl of water without us asking for one. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfy - just what you need after a long walk. We ate in the bar both nights and the food was very tasty, I can recommend the lamb in yorkshire pud and the fish in batter was lovely and crispy, my compliments to the chef! Also the breakfast is very tasty with great service, all the staff seem to smile all the time. The Village is lovely and there are lots of good walks and shops in the area. We were made to feel very welcome, including the dog, and I hope to be back very soon.

We had a 2 night B & B break from 13th Feb and had a standard room No 103 on first floor. The room and en-suite were fine for our purpose although on the small side.
The place had changed since our last visit several years ago and the public areas were comfortable and the Lamb Inn which sold cask ales was an improvement on the previous bar area.

We had dinner both evenings in the hotel restaurant and other than a problem with an order on 2nd night where onion rings and mushrooms were missing from the advertised sirloin steak dish when delivered to the table, everything was fine. The missing vegetables were quickly produced. Breakfast choice was extensive and the cooked "English" was very appetising and filling.

The staff at reception and in the dining room were very friendly and efficient.

Car parking at the hotel was OK as we managed to get a space both days in the early afternoon although most of the time we were there, there was rarely a vacant space to be found.

We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Just back from a great two night stay at the Red Lion Hotel and i must say we were treated to the same warm and friendly welcome that we received last year. Start to finish the staff have been great unlike the weather (snow and fog) but it is the Lakes after all. I can say hand on heart that we will be back in the near future as it's a great base for exploring some fabulous walks from, with an added bonus of receiving a warm welcome back and a well earned real ale or coffee. Thanks to you all for a great stay.

Family Room nice, but no tolerance of reasonable and early evening children's laughter. More or less evicted due to 24 month old grandson laughing whilst bathing prior to bed. Had to put up with banging on walls's and shouts of "shut up" at 8:30pm. Little man thoroughly upset by this, couldn't settle him so sat up in bed watching DVD's on lap top. Further "barracking, eventually gave up and drove home at 12 midnight (80) miles. At that time found people wandering around hotel looking for staff ton serve them at bar. Never again, we were apparently the ones in the wrong!
