“fantastic stay with freindly staff”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

Lovely homely feel to this hotel, just had a wonderful weekend with my wife. Made to feel like family as soon as i walked through the door, the staff really couldn't do enough for us. The food was fantastic, we dined in the bar and the restaurant and couldn't fault either, the breakfast is top notch too. I really can't thank the staff enough as they really made this weekend, even when a large group booking caused them problems, they were professional til the end. The bedroom was cleaned to a good standard within literally minutes of us leaving the room on a morning. Chris the manager, Adam the bar manager, Tom, Ashleigh, Megan and all the other front of house staff were fantastic, sorry if i haven't mentioned you in person.

We stay at this hotel regularly and it has never let us down. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the food in the Courthouse restaurant is excellent. Chris, the manager, went out of his way to accomodate our next stay which is for a birthday celebration.

Stayed with teenage son for a walking break. Reception quickly relocated us to a twin bedded room rather than double with no problems. Room was clean and tidy, all meals we had were good and the barmeals excellent for hungry walkers. Son thought the pool and gym area were excellent and the availability of free wifi was major plus point. Would certainly recommend!!

Can not fault cleanliness of service. But, yet again, breakfast lets a hotel down - when will a hotel get it right? At least we were served our cooked breakfast on piping hot plates, which is a plus, BUT... staff need to be trained to clear away used plates - we were not the only guests to complain about this. On our second morning we were seated in an 'annex' to the main dining room and after we were initially seated, were simply ignored and forgotten by staff - one of us had to go and find a waitress to ask if anyone was going to serve us as we were gasping for a cup of coffee! I had a single room, which was fine, but there was no instructions on how to operate the Jacuzzi bath - I discovered how to operate it by accident on my second night. I was with a disabled person and on booking was told we could not book a parking space. When we arrived it was very difficult to find anywhere nearby to park. However, on reading the in room info, it stated we could book a space! And indeed Reception did reserve a space for us on our second day - but, again, it highlights a need for staff training. We would stay at the Red Lion again, but only because we are BW regular customers, and have a loyalty card!

Have visited the Red Lion Hotel many times and it has never disappointed. The rooms are always lovely and clean and bed linen spotlessly crisp. Amenities in the room are normal to all hotels. Breakfast is excellent and always served piping hot, evening meals are fitting for visitors who have been walking all day. Bar food in The Lambs Inn is also great. Tea, coffee and chocolates are served in the main hotel after meals. A warm welcome from staff is always assured a very carefree hotel and would definately recommend it to visitors.

Stayed Sunday 9th September 2012, had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights but had to leave after one. Bed linen was grubby, damp stains on the walls particularly near the windows, carpet coming away from the walls, pubic hairs left in the bath from the previous occupier! But the worst was the breakfast which had a cooked wood louse on the mushroom. The mushroom was taken away by the waiter with a mumbled apology and we weren't even offered a replacement breakfast - needless to say the rest of the breakfast was left untouched! Definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel.
