My stay at the red lion Grasmere was lovely. Myself and friend had a lovely time. Warm friendly faces everywhere and all the staff were happy to help.
must say The lamb inn was lovely too, Taylor the young man working there was hard working and friendly as where all the other staff.
I would most definitely recommend a visit it to anyone. I will most defenitly be returning soon.

We stayed two nights and would score the hotel highly in so many areas, great location, cozy feel, friendly staff, very nice bar meals, good breakfast, but it was let down badly by the quality of the bed, which lets face it is a key aspect of any hotel.
The bed was so highly sprung that any movement by either of us would wake the other resulting in long and disturbed nights.
A better mattress and this hotel would get a great overall score.

Rooms are small and parking is a nightmare however it has a great location and a certain friendly, cosy atmosphere. The food is also very good particularly the excellent breakfast. We will probably visit again in future. This is our second visit.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to share your feed back.

I am very sorry you found your room on the small side. With the building being very old all our rooms are different shapes and sizes. You mention you will visit again which is great. If you would like to book direct with myself I will ensure you receive a more spacious room.

Thank you for your comments regarding the staff and being friendly, this is much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you again.

Kind Regards

My wife felt she should complain about a very uncocerned manager, she had complained about retuning tired after alond walk to fined our room not made up @3 40pm and the next day returned to find just the top sheet pulled over with the sheets crumpled as we left the room that morning and on the last evening a very rowdy group with offensive language resounding on our floor until 1 am. The manager who was conspicuos by his absence said yes but ther was no violence "well thats ok then" when she mentioned that we have stayed at this hotel many times in the past along with what was the sister hotel the salutation and our stay there recently was of the standard the red lion used to be, this obviously annoyed him as his recomendation was "well you should stay at the salutation then shouldent you" a recomendation we will follow. What a shame a once lovely hotel is being run so bad by a manager who just dosent care

Room Tip: as the manager stated book the salutation in ambleside

Dear Guest

Many Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.

I would like to point out that. After speaking to all duty managers on duty there was not a problem with the group in question and they finished there drinking by 11pm and all went there separate ways to there guest rooms. Also the guests in question were only with us for 1 night and dined in our Restaurant on the Wednesday evening, yourselves dined on the Tuesday evening and not on the Wednesday.

At no point during your stay did you bring any concerns to the staff regarding any issues you had during your stay as myself also that checked you out from the hotel with your comments being 'a lovely stay'. However we did have a good chat on Thursday evening regarding your stay.

It is great you have a loyalty to the Salutation Hotel as this is a very nice hotel and is very highly rated. Again the Salutation also has female Managers and during your call you did state that ' No manager should be female' again this comment was not acceptable. The 2 female Managers in question have been dedicated employees to the business for over 15 years and we certainly will not discriminate against the sex of a Manager and they are more than capable of doing there job's and dealing with any situation that may arise.

I see from your guest history you only stay with a KGB deal at the special price of £99.00 for 2 nights Bed & Breakfast and again I was in fact the Manager during your previous stays.

With regards to the Housekeeping this will certainly be looked at as this is by no means acceptable. We take on board your comments and wish you the best of luck finding a hotel that is suitable for yourselves. Please also read the other comments on this page I do believe they reflect a much better picture of the hotel.

Kindest Regards

Arrived on the Monday to a pleasant greeting, the room we stayed in was a pet friendly room and it was clean and just what we expected, the staff who work there are really nice from the staff who serve breakfast to the exceptional service we received from the staff who worked at night, I must commend Carrie & Ashleigh who we thought were exceptionally friendly and very professional, thanks to you two fabulous girls that has cemented our decision to return to this hotel in the near future. The staff were friendly in this hotel, and breakfast was lovely. The building, however, was looking rather 'tired'. A lick of paint wouldn't do any harm, the carpet was very worn in places, and windows were clearly very old. Fine for a few days but nothing special.

We stayed at the Red Lion 15th/16th Feb, in the Ruskin Suite. It was wonderful. On arrival the reception was warm and friendly. The staff were polite, smiling and proffessinal in every way. The food in the Courtyard restaurant was superb and a credit to the chef and kitchen staff. The breakfast was perfect. We have no problems in recommending the Red Lion to anyone infact have raved about it to my parents and friends all day today, as we spoke on the phone about our wk/end. The Hotel evening lounge singer was very good, just lovely after dining. The village itself is a treat and walking by Grasmere breathtaking.
