“WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE , EVER !!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 March 2013

Booked a weeks artist course for my wife for feb this year as a christmas gift , rang the hotel the week before arrival to confirm all ok as we had not received any itinary . told just turn up as booked , all ok . Arrived 10 am on the saturday told room not ready come back at midday , Asked for itinary for course , advised just go into the lounge at 5pm to meet artist , It transpired the course had never been organised and we were told at 6pm its a no-go . Responce of general manager was appalling ,he was flipant and childish in fact he actually told us that that if we wanted any compensation we shold sue because thats why they pay insurance !, though the assistant manageress did offer a free nights accommodation .Two letters of complaint to the hotel have remained unanswered , finally a letter to Best Western CEO did recieve a reply .
IMAGES of the bathroom speak for themselves .

Staff are great and this hotel had a very relaxed feel. Nothing too much trouble and everything on hand. Food was great and very well presented. Grilled breakfast excellent especially the veggy sausage and i am a meat eater!!! Bed comfortable and the room warm even in very cold weather. Recommend highly.

We stayed here as a birthday present from my mum for two nights.the staff were fantastic on reception very friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and clean and more than big enough for the two of us we had great views from the windows.our first night we had dinner in the restaurant and the food and staff were super as it was the next morning for breakfast it was by far one of the best breakfasts iv had in a long time.however the night after we had dinner in the pub side and was quite shocked at the vast difference in standard.the meal was ok but my dessert was wrong as were a few other peoples meals. it was very average.the next morning my breakfast was also average cool food for hot breakfast wasn't great.but there was plenty of cereal and fruit to choose from.I would definitely stay here again as overall the staff and stay was great but I do feel it needs a lick of paint here and there and some repairs in places to be worth the full price they ask.

Recently stayed at the Red Lion but unfortunately could not take advantage of all it had to offer due to one of our party taken ill on the way but made the best of what we could.
When we finally arrived we went to our rooms and wow they were fantastic. We could not believe the size of ours - talk about luxurious! There were also two bottles of mineral water by the bed.
In the morning we ventured down to the breakfast room. There was a good selection of cereals and ham and cheeses. We ordered a full English which was huge. Tea and coffee were brought to the table. All the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Grasmere is a very pretty village. We enjoy our real ale so were delighted to find a bar called Tweedies next door which had an excellent selection. The hotel also has a bar serving one or two real ales.
On our departure we found the pool and other amenities. We hope to return one day as we were unable to enjoy our visit properly due to one of our party spending their first night in hospital but we made the most of the time we had.

Room Tip: We had 116 and 117 which were round the side so very quiet

We bought vouchers to stay here from KGB and i have to say we were happy with the deal, we go to the lake district every year the Red Lion is in a great position for some lovely walks so were really looking forward to our stay ! Check in was easy and the young lady at reception soon organised some parking for us and we went to our rooms . I have to say the room was lovely and warm but sadly a little worse for wear the carpet was threadbare there was a layer of dust around the edges of the room and the tv was hilarious a little dot the size of a computer screen we could barely see it from the bed , however the bedding was clean although the bed was very old and lumpy this was probably the worst night sleep i had had for a long time . Breakfast was very good pleny of tea coffee and toast and plenty of choice for cooked to order hot breakfast fresh fruit and yogurt were a bit lacking but on the whole it was very nice . Had i stayed at the Red lion on full rate i would have been very dissapointed but with the KGB deal the price we paid was fair would i stay at the Red Lion again ... if i could get a KGB deal or another offer then yes probably without a deal ... probably not..... time for a refurb me thinks !!!!!

My husband and four freinds have just spent a wonderful weekend at The Red Lion (our second visit), we spent two nights in comfort with good food and freindly and helpful staff, well the majority of them were, there was just one woman who was on reception when we arrived (she must be in her thirties) and to say she was abrupt was an understatment, and that wasn't the only time i encountered her abruptness, i tried to be friendly but was dismissed as if i was a bit of dust annoying her!!! I eventually nicknamed her 'Little Miss Angry' as she didnt ever seem to smile she always had an angry look on her face and that is where it stayed all weekend!!!! Not a very good advert for the hotel which we know to be very friendly. Other than that one problem everything else was fabulous and we will definitely be back one day! Susie Connolly from Cheshire

Room Tip: Our room which was 201 was comfortable but rather cramped but our friends who were in 200 their room...

Second visit to the Red Lion - just as good as last time. Love area for the walking and this hotel is perfectly placed for walkers of all abilities with easy access on to the hills and to the lakeside. Also, Grasmere is such a lovely village to walk around. The hotel is really comfortable with great food and I particularly love the spa and pool area - great for relaxing after a long day out. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I can recommend! We will be returning.
