This hotel, although a little tired, is in a fantastic position for walking the local fells which surround it in every direction. The front of office staff were extremely welcoming & helpful & constantly strived to do their best to help residents with limited parking. The hotel has a comfy spacious lounge & restaurant or bar for eating in. We ate in the latter which offered wholesome & filling traditional dishes--pies, Yorkshires etc. It is better than average but not very good. The Jacuzzi & pool was just warm & the sauna was out of action -- bit disappointing after long walks on the fells.

Very welcoming staff in reception and the restaurant staff were superb. We were incorrectly advised by reception staff regarding the parking. Parking at hotel very poor and we had to park in the pay and display car park which was some distance away. The cost although not cheap did not really matter but we nearly incurred a fine due to the wrong information from hotel. They would be better not advising guests regarding times etc. the sauna and steam room were closed when we visited but the pool was open. The changing rooms offered no privacy at all and you could not lock the lockers either. The pool was not particularly warm either. The restaurant food was superb and made up for the poor leisure facilities. The bedroom although small was fine and the ensuite bathroom although tiny was adequate. It would have been better with just a shower instead of a bath with overhead shower and no curtain.0

Although rated "average", this hotel is probably better than that - but not quite into "very good" territory. Centrally located, with free parking (albeit with limited spaces), it is fairly typical of many a Lakeland hotel - clean and comfortable, but slightly dated in parts. Staff were extremely helpful. The restaurant is first class - there really is not the need to go out to eat elsewhere. A plus point is that the wine prices are very reasonable. The adjacent pub (accessible directly from the hotel) serves good pub grub and a reasonable selection of beers.

Just spent three nights at this hotel and have to say that the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We were on half board and found the choice of food was super both at breakfast and dinner. We particularly enjoyed the crime brûlée - delicious! Yes the hotel is in need of a facelift but the room we were in was clean and adequate. Cannot comment on the swimming pool or any other facilities at hotel as we did not use them.

Good location in the middle of Grasmere with access to all the shops and cafes.
We booked a club room direct with the hotel website as there was limited accommodation for the nights we required. When we arrived I handed the receptionist the confirmation and was allocated a room on the third floor overlooking the main road. The room was OK but looked a little tired and seemed to be missing some of the club extras although they had remembered the half bolltle of champagne from the offer! Eventually I returned to reception to me told that I was not in a club room as there were non available by the time I had arrived and was offered a price reduction back to the double I was in and was given the club room extras such as dressing gowns etc.
As it was obvious a club room was not available it was pointless arguing about the error so we spent 2 days in a room I hadn't really wanted!
All that being said the restaurant was good even thought the tables are very small and rather crowded together. The service was good and quick and the food quality reasonable.
I was not altogether surprised when I ordered soft fried eggs for breakfast the second morning they came hard!
I never got to see a club room but assume they are probably refurbished and a better quality from the one we got.
On the plus side the staff were really good which compensated for the rest but it would have been nice to have had to right room!

Avery pleasant hotel, nice rooms jacuzzi style bath. Lovely menu and great location my little 8month old at the time loved the swimming pool, but in need of a face lift to be honest not the nicest of stairs to walk down or safe to be fair they were loose and slippery.

We were walking the Coast to Coast and decided to treat ourselves to one night of luxury with spa facilities. At £140:00 per room per night it was by far the most expensive stay along the 200 mile walk. Like other reviewers our room was not ready on arrival although the cleaner was kind and did it immediately. She did however forget to replenish biscuits and coffee!

The double room was very small and the bathroom dated and shabby with dirty skirting boards. The room had tiny windows which looked onto the balcony of the room at right angles to ours so for privacy we needed to keep the curtains closed.

The doors of the breakfast room were opened 5 minutes late by which time the queue was sizeable and it was difficult to serve oneself from the small circular table with so many people and tables close together. We pointed the filthy fanlight above one table to a member of staff and also expressed concerns about the cleanliness of the shower in the spa.

We often stay at Best Western hotels but this one was poor value for money. Luckily we also had a stay at the Best western in Richmond and that was superb.
