We booked a standard room for myself, the mrs and our 1year daughter. The room was huge with a spa bath and massive bed. Everyone at the hotel were really friendly and helpful. The location was amazing and now Grasmere is our new fav after windermere. Only one small thing, the pool was a little cold for our 1 year old but everything else was perfect - we will be back

Stayed here for a post Christmas get away. Was overcharged by last minute.com, note to self, ring hotel first as rates were half price.
Still it wasn't worth half price? The hotel is ok, a little tired, but I never expected to stay in a room with the dirtiest bathroom ever. Hair stuck to the door, missing caps from radiators, nasty cut waiting to happen, and mold and mildew all over the tiles and the taps! It even ended up in the bath water!
Complaint was dealt with in a lame manner by reception desk and when forwarded photos to head office, again was dealt with in a lame manner offering loyalty points worth £20 in m@s!
What a shame.

Belated review due to Christmas etc. Thirty plus years since our last stay and the hotel has gone from strength to strength!!! Red Lion excellent. Fantastic welcome and check in after rather trying journey, clean accommodation and excellent food both evening meal, breakfast and bar snacks. Leisure facilities good too. All staff excellen- well trained, attentive to guest needs and very obliging. Special mention must go to Ashleigh who competently managed our booking of five rooms. Will definitely stop again and look forward to doing so in near future. Often stay In Grasmere and rarely review, but feel Red Lion deserves recognition.

Having been in the hospitality trade for over 15 years and working every Christmas and new year, this was my first time being able to take advantage of a break myself, and was I disappointed NO !!!. WELL DONE TO ALL.

Fantastic and so well organised, so much wonderful food from the arrival food to the gala dinner, brunch etc etc.

A well ran professional experience that we will well remember even the dog had a great new year.

room was clean, warm, well maintained (apart from the headboard lol)

Would we revisit without a doubt and will be real soon, our next visit will be our 7th time to Grasmere 5th staying at Red lion.

Just returned from our first stay at the red lion but it won't be our last. Great staff, lovely pool and other facilities. Rooms cosy but still spot on. Bathrooms possibly could do with being updating but showers powerful and hot . The breakfast was brilliant. No fat at all on the English. Also loads of choice of fruits, cereals pastries etc. Could not fault or stay in any way. Restaurant food was out of this world. One of the best meals we have had.

A big thanks to Chris and his team who worked extremely hard over the 5 day break to make Christmas an unforgettable time for us all. The hospitality and friendliness of the hotel was excellent from start to finish. We stayed in the Ruskin Suite which had beautiful views across Grasmere, our room was very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, with plenty of choice on the menu, topped with a super buffet on Christmas Day evening. Entertainment was great fun and everybody's participation with the Christmas jumper competition made Christmas Day hilarious and very sociable with other guests. The break was so good we've already booked for Christmas 2014. We wish Chris and the team all the very best this year, from the Lund Family.

Dear Lund Family,

Thank you kindly for your great review. It is very rewarding to know that we managed to make your Christmas so special. We all had such a great time and really happy that the package was such a success with nearly all guest re-booking for Christmas 2014! (Which is already in the planning to ensure it's even better).

We look forward to welcoming you all back soon & have a wonderful New Year!

This is a great hotel, I have just spent 4 nights over Christmas on a package and everything was perfect. The hotel is very clean, warm and the staff are extremely pleasant and hard working. The choice of food was incredible and the standard very high. There is a swimming pool with jacuzi, sauna and small gym. Towels are provided. For the first time ever the electronic key worked every single time. My room (301) had a balcony and the views were lovely. There is ample carparking. The room had a hospitality tray, hairdryer, trouser press and shaver socket. the lounge area has plenty of sofas for relaxing. There were a couple of guests in wheel chairs and the disabled access was good. There is a bus service one an hour which was perfect for sight seeing. I shall certainly be back soon.
