From walking through the door on day one until the moment we left we found all members of staff very professional.
The room was a little on the small side and the bathroom was a little cramped but it didn't take any of the shine away from our stay.
We had only one evening meal at the hotel and it was excellent as was the full english breakfast.
The residents bar prices at 30% above the normal bar prices seemed a little over the top but we had the choice and used it.
We feel sure that when the latest round of alterations are complete and the required building trades vacate the area The Red Lion Hotel will be the only place to stay in Grasmere.

We stayed at The Red Lion for 5 nights at the end of May. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and we had a lovely welcome. The lounge and bar area are very impressive with plenty of room. Our room was actually very small, but adequate, and the jacuzzi bath was a blessing after the walking. I would however ask for a bigger room if we stay again. Breakfast was amazing - you could basically have anything you wanted. We ate there three of the nights and were treated very well and the food was delicious. The staff in the restaurant could not be faulted for breakfast or dinner. We also ate at Tweedies (which has amazing food) and the The Lamb - a bit too smoky for us but that should not be a problem soon. We loved Grasmere - such a beautiful quiet little village with stunning views all around. There are plenty of wonderful walks to do as well. We would definitley stay in both Grasmere and the Red Lion again.

Have stayed at the Red Lion around 15 times over the past two years and we never tire of it, (and doubt we ever will)
The hotel and staff are excellent with a great selection of food on offer !
We have stayed in double (with and without a spa-bath), club and the named rooms and each are up to a high standard.
The welcome you receive is second to none and al the staff are very attentive.
Whenever we have a bad week at work, a trip to the Red Lion is the prefect way to unwind and relax.

We have stayed twice at the Red Lion this year, once in June and then again in November. One both occassions it has been wonderful. This is a very comfortable home-from-home style hotel that I cannot recommend highly enough. The staff here are some of the best hotel staff I have come across. The purpose for our weekend breaks have been to spend time with my parents-on-law on the first occassion and because we all enjoyed it so much we took my parents the second time. The public areas and bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the restaurant serves very good food. The Lamb pub which is within the hotel also serves good pub grub.
Where this hotel really scores for me though, is that it allows dogs to stay! Our pooch was treated like a lord, spoilt rotten, he is very much looking forward to another visit next summer!!!
For food I would make two other recommendations. In Grasmere village, the 'Jumble Room' - fabulous! and just a short walk from the hotel. If you feel like a drive the 'Drunken Duck Inn' on the Hawkshead road out of Ambleside (about 15 minutes from the hotel) is excellent. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch there in the bar, but the restaurant looked as though it would be a real treat in the evening, we will definately try here for dinner next time we visit.

We stayed here for a weekend in November. Our room was a corner one with two windows - each with boxes of still blooming geraniums! It was clean with tea making and TV. The bathroom had a corner jacuzzi bath and shower which was rather awkward to use unless you sat in the bath! The staff were obliging and efficient.
The breakfasts were excellent cooked to order and although busy we didn't have to wait for long.
I was telephoned before our stay to be warned that a Christmas party would be taking place on the Fri night. However, we didn't hear a thing but appreciated the call. The gym was adequate but very small and the pool was excellent.
We didn't eat in the hotel but had a good meal at Sara's Bistro and a reasonable one at the Dove & Olive.
We stay in the Lakes a lot and this was our first time in Grasmere. The town is a little too quiet for us but I can recommend the Red Lion for anyone who fancies a stay in Grasmere.
