Excellent food, lovely staff and comfortable surroundings made for a lovely dining experience. The coal fire in the lounge was very welcoming on a wet and windy night. Would recommend and hope our next visit to the restaurant is not too far away.

Spent 3 nights at this hotel at the start of October, been here many times now and it is as good as ever, staff, food, rooms, cleanliness, all score 10 out of 10. Owners should be very proud of the hotel and the staff that help it to be a huge success, most people return year after year....and so will we. A BIG thanks to all at the Bridgehouse.

Room Tip: All rooms great, check out the website to choose a room.

Oh just can't praise this hotel enough! I have stayed in most of the hotels in Grasmere over the years but since we found this one, I don't think twice now when arranging a trip: the Lake District means Bridge House Hotel for me.
Just returned from yet another weekend and loved it.
I have read a review here that focuses on "plastic beakers" in the bathroom - sheesh, I have stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels across the UK and such is the ambience here that I probably wouldn't even notice the beaker in the first place but each to their own.
The Manager here is first class, the Chef is the best kept secret this side of Michelin, the rooms and views are great and the staff appear to have been trained in the "Bridge House ethos" - courteous, charming and helpful.
I tried to click on NONE for children activity rating on this page but it came up with "Terrible" instead - it isn't. If you have children, I think even they would pick up on the ethos and behave really well just before the pure, Lake District air knocked them out for the night!
Congratulations to all who make this hotel what it is.

Got to say after reading the last two reviews that although they may feel that high end interior decor plays a major role in raising their experience of a hotel, it means very little to many travellers if the rest of your overall experience falls short. I've stayed in many hotels in that category where the food is awful, the staff inattentive, the cost extortionate yet the decor is unflawed, modern and fluffy.

The Bridge House Hotel won't win any awards for interior design and although the blankets may appear dated, the bathrooms may have no jaccuzzi's or sooper dooper power showers and the lounges may not ooze with a luxury that meet the standards of those looking for fineries in a Lake District village where opulence should matter very little, the interior is of a more than adequate standard and fits in just right for the character of the place.

The fact is that this place oozes high class in terms of what does matter most. The food - we once ventured to L'Enclume, a Michelin starred restaurant in the Lakes, the chef at The Bridge House, is missing a trick by not inviting Mr Michelin to sample the delicious creations that arrive at your table that leave some of those with Michelin stars in the shade.

The staff - always on hand, polite, courteous, friendly, attentive and professional.
The location and surroundings - beautiful, well manicured gardens surrounded by the beauty of Grasmere and it's mountains.

I could go on with more and more reasons why you should visit and you might be forgiven for thinking I may be in their employment after giving such a praiseworthy review but I'm not and it may work against me when I next attempt a booking to discover they can't fit me in.

Me and my partner have been sating here for over 10 years, we've tried other hotels but our stays here were always an experience above the rest so now we no longer 'experiment' elsewhere, we don't need to. We've just returned rom spending a weekend there with a family party of 6 of us and any one of us could have written this review.

If you're seeking material luxuries then maybe The Bridge House isn't for you but if you're needs are for real substantive luxuries in a lovely, quaint, hotel with bundles of character, class and taste then this place is a gem that you'll return to time and again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor overlook the river and are most enchanting.

We have stayed one night in this charming hotel with it's stunning views of the river and fells. The room was clean but the bathroom is in a serious need of refurbishment and modernization. We also had a dinner included in our room package and that was exceptionally tasty. It was the best fillet steak I have had in the past 10 years. All of the produce has been sourced locally and no wonders that it was like heaven in my mouth! Compliments to the chef as the food was absolutely divine. The staff was professional and extremely polite.Worth every penny.

A lot of contradictions here. On the plus side, charming and attentive staff and generous amounts of very good food. And the wine was excellent. On the distaff side, there were rather nasty blankets on the bed. No duvets. No glass in the (nice) bathroom, only plastic beakers. Put a toothbrush in one and it falls over. Industrial size hand wash and shampoo bottles, which are rather inappropriate.
The three lounges resemble a station waiting room, albeit with upholstered chairs and sofas. Nevertheless, most guests obviously love everything about this place and come again and again.

Have just returned from a five night stay at this lovely hotel. Everything about this hotel was good. The location is great we do not have a car and travelled all around the area by buses which were absolutely brilliant. The food was fantastic our room was lovely it overlooked the river and we were able to feed the ducks from the window. We had a four course dinner each night which was absolutely delicious. We will be returning !
