I booked a night at the Rothay Garden as a birthday treat for my other half. Our room (18 I think) was fantastic- beautifully decorated, perfectly clean with 2 balconies overlooking the stream and the gardens/ spa. We wandered the couple of hundred metres into grasmere and had some lunch at Tweedies bar- perfectly good pub grub. And then spent a couple of hours in the small but perfectly formed spa. Even on a rainy march day it was fabulous to relax looking out on the snow topped mountains. Very very relaxing!!
Our evening meal was perfect from start to finish- the atmosphere, service and food were top class!!! We really couldn't fault it. We slept very comfortably and breakfast, again, was faultless! The hotel has a very small, intimate feel. I suppose visiting at a relatively quiet time of year made this more so. We really couldn't fault any aspect of the stay- it was very relaxing and perfect for a romantic getaway. The staff were all great too (especially Hannah, the assistant manager!!)
We'll be back!!

This is our second visit and we were looking forward to returning and seeing the new Spa area. We stayed in Room 2, which had French windows leading to a seating area by the river, looking over to the fells. The welcome was warm which could not be said about the weather - freezing temperatures for March and not a daffodil in sight! We were on a special DBB offer with a welcoming bottle of champagne. Food was excellent, service first class and the Spa is a bit special! This is a very different Lakes hotel and all the staff work very hard to make your stay special. The snow arrived overnight on our 2nd night turning the gardens and surrounding fells into a winter wonderland. We would highly recommend a stay here, look out for special deals as it can be expensive otherwise.

Room Tip: There are a number of ground floor rooms which are accessible for those with mobility issues.

Having enjoyed our first experience here so much, I could not resist a living and socail offer to return. Our room was better than last time with a balcony over looking the fells. Food as good as any we have tasted, and the new spa a verry welcome adition. Highly recomend.

My wife and I stayed in a 'riverside suite' which comprised a spacious bedroom, bathroom with over-bath shower, and a small lounge area overlooking (and with access to) a small seating area alongside a stream. We took advantage of a 'Travelzoo' offer, which was excellent value, helping us celebrate a 'special' birthday in style, with a bottle of Champagne upon arrival.

The hotel facilities are superb, with complementary robes and slippers in our room that we donned before stepping through to the spa area, were we took advantage of a large jacuzzi, sauna, aromatherapy room etc. - very relaxing...

Evening menu is a four course dinner, with a small selection (five or six choices per course) but excellent quality, finished off with coffee and chocs in the lounge. the wine list is extensive, but quite expensive, with the cheapest bottles starting at over £20; although even these were very tasty.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough - they were friendly and attentive but unobtrusive, and very professional.

Overall, it was a real pleasure to stay there, and I would not hesitate to recommend it for a short (or long) stay.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have external access to private seating and the well tended garden
