We really enjoyed our restful three night stay at Lancrigg and will definitely come again! We arrived in snow, quickly followed by sunny weather which created a really beautiful landscape to walk in - though very soggy underfoot! After a wonderful breakfast, it was great to be able to walk directly from the hotel and quickly feel surrounded by the hills. We also unexpectedly saw a wild roe deer roaming the hotel woods. We particularly loved having these views from the bay window in our room - The John Richardson Room (ground floor room with its own private external door - so useful).
The room was very spacious and therefore needing an extra heater and blankets - which we were happily given - but then it was February with snow! The roll top bath gave plenty of hot water, quickly filling the bath and the connecting shower had good pressure . A lovely addition were the locally handmade, chemical free toiletries that were provided. Also within the room, were tea making facilities with a range of teas and coffee, refreshed daily.
The restaurant food was excellent (delicious and well presented) with a variety of choices with each course.
The lounge, with the log fire, was extremely cosy and a pleasant place to sit and meet other guests.
The staff were all friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome throughout.

Room Tip: The John Richardson Room is on the ground floor, very spacious with lovely views from a bay window...

We have been to Lancrigg quite a few times, so knew what to expect, we were not disappointed. We had arrived early due to weather concerns, but were greeted warmly and soon let into our room. The staff are warm and friendly, and can't do enough to make your stay comfortable, without being at all intrusive. The food was delicious. We left, recharged!

As a thank you friends bought my husband and I some vouchers to stay a week end at this hotel that we had never heard of. We decided to make it a special week end asking along our sons and their partners. We booked their 'private' house, three double bedrooms that were so atmospheric - kind of Edwardian eclectic - but with the advantage of lovely bathrooms. We had our own living room where an inviting fire greeted our arrival. Especially welcome after a walk above snowy Easdale.
The main hotel is a five minute walk away through woods (torches in the bedrooms) and the breakfast and evening meal were very much enjoyed by those of us vegetarian and those who would have usually eaten meat. A real escape.
Thanks to all - at the hotel and the friends who gave us the vouchers. Anna & John

We were a party of five booked in for dinner in mid-February.

Only one of our party is a vegetarian but we chose the restaurant based on the fact that it is specialist vegatarian and the high average rating on trip advisor. The three rating is an average across our party.

We found the restaurant physically very cold on the evening we visited. Temperatures outside were low but having to turn the heating up in the restaurant ourselves was probably more than we were expecting!

The waitress was friendly and efficient altough we were the only ones in the restaurant on the evening in question..

The menu is reasonable although the snacks are too expensive. Most of our party thought the main courses were good if unexceptional - still there were no complaints about the quantity so no danger of going hungry. The desserts however were poor and it was clear that my creme brulee had been cooked some time earlier in the day (or possibly the previous day?) although to be fair one of our party thought the apple crumble was excellent.

The key question I always ask myself when visiting anywhere is whether I would go back. In this case its probably a no.

My wife is a veggie and she was bowled over by the food and atmosphere - a real choice of good veggie food in a classic setting. I was fine with the veggie options other than for breakfast - I would have loved a standard veggie breakfast - but it was not on the menu.

Portions were big, wine was great, rooms full of character, grounds beautiful.

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Lancrigg! The room was comfortable and
spotless. The girls (and one boy) at front of house and in the dining room
were so friendly and helpful. The food was first class! It was a real treat
to have such delicious food and not worry about being vegan!

There is something about this hotel that makes you able to forget it all. A fabulous location where you can wind down completely. The rooms are all different and the hotel has a lovely peaceful feeling about it. The food is excellent. Neither myself or my partner are vegetarian but we love the breakfast selection and the evening meals are amazing. There are some great walks right on the doorstep and a short stroll gets you right into Grasmere so no need for the car at all once you get there. We have stayed twice already (and in other places in Grasmere before that) but would go back here every time over other places we've stated in and will certainly do so in the near future.
