As well as enjoying the wonderful scenery in which Lancrigg is set, - dull would they be of soul who didn't, - we appreciated its friendliness and comfort a great deal. We were lucky in the weather, but so were we in staying at such a welcoming and attentive hotel. We look forward to our next visit.

Although we are relatively frequent travelers, this is the first time I have felt that I really wanted to submit a review to Tripadvisor. But this hotel deserves it.

Do not expect a glitzy modern hotel. Instead, a stay here feels more like a visit to a friend's country house with all the quirks and individuality that implies. As such the service is informal, but the staff try really hard to please and they succeed.

As a vegetarian hotel, the food is, of course, an essential part of what the establishment has to offer. In my opinion the food is outstanding, the attention to detail is obvious and the choice is large.

Finally, the setting is magnificent.

Room Tip: Our room faced the front of the hotel, and the views from the window are to die for. All other thin...

vegetarian, like hiking? go to lancrigg! finally a place where you can stay for a week or more without any food issues and a large variety of dishes. lovely breakfasts, an extensive dinner menu - and they even prepare you a packed lunch for when you are out and about. perfect location - outside of grasmere, so no tourist hustle and bustle, plus right at the foot of helm crag and a great starting point for any hike -, wonderful views of the green valley, pretty rooms that are lovingly decorated, friendly staff... what else could you wish for (apart from another glass of that lovely organic wine we enjoyed in the lancrigg gardens)? it was a wonderful experience - will be back as soon as possible!

Really enjoyed our week at Lancrigg. The room was amazing and the food was delicious. We feel restored after a lovely restful break. The perfect place to unwind. The staff were friendly and attentive and the owners Rob & Janet made us feel special. Highly recommended.

We booked the room 2 days before we arrived.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.

The room was very comfy and well presented and had plenty of room.

I am a vegetarian. but my husband isn't, but he enjoyed the food as much as I did. The breakfast was a refreshing change from the normal grease fest at B&B's, which we don't really enjoy, but have, because we have paid for it!
Lucy our dog probably had her best night's sleep in a strange place! Normally any noise will have her growling and barking at any hour of the night...

All in all we enjoyed our stay and will definately stay again when we come to the lakes.....

The only drawback was the storage heater in our room, that was on full blast all night, no matter what we tried to do to reduce the heat and being on the ground floor, as it was a very warm night, it wasn't ideal having to have the window open all night....

We are a family of four (with 2 young children)and frequent visitors to the Lake District. We have stayed at Lancrigg on 5 occasions and experienced the hotel as a wedding venue and as a weekend getaway.
The location of the hotel is perfect for us, with stunning scenery from all views and walks straight from the door for all members of our extended family who will often join us during our stays.
The food is excellent as is the service provided, the only frustration is not having the time to try everything on the menu.
The rooms are full of character and have a real 'country house' feel. If you are looking for a soulless Travelodge type room, then Lancrigg may not be for you. And don't be put off by it's formal looking outward appearance, you will be made to feel extremely welcome by its owners and at ease wondering around the beautiful grounds and relaxing having a drink in the lounge.
We look forward to our next visit.
As do our 2 dogs who are always made to feel welcome too!

Room Tip: The Whittington is a great family room which feels like it is in its own little wing of the hotel.

Lancrigg has to be unique being a vegetarian hotel in such a wonderful location. It is located up a lane from Grasmere providing the perfect starting point for walks up Easedale and its own grounds provide delightful woodland walks. Our room, The Easedale, was very comfortable in a natural and understated way and also was perfect for our dog being close to the front door. The food is creative and delicious with many dishes that would be enjoyed by a none vegetarian. Some time ago we entertained a non- vegetarian to dinner and he found it a life changing experience.
The staff a real stars providing friendly competent service with nothing being too much trouble.

Room Tip: There is a wide variety of rooms so speak to the hotel to find the one that suits you best.
