Stayed in the Larch room at Kitty crag house a few minutes walk away. Beautiful room with stunning views. Enjoyed the walk through the woods to the main hotel for breakfast (or you can drive instead). Breakfast is lovely and with the room excellent value. Dinner was good- partners meal choice superb, mine simple but tasty. Staff are friendly, owner very accommodating and helpful. Our second visit, looking forward to the next one.

It's my idea of heaven to stay within walking distance of the stunning Easedale Tarn while enjoying the best vegetarian cuisine in a genuinely characterful hotel, steeped in lakeland history. Lancrigg is refreshingly homely and personalized with some of the most imaginative vegetarian and vegan cooking I've found anywhere. NOT for the corporate traveller seeking sanitized standardised perfection - this is a real place for real people, with an elegance and charm all of it's own. Ourr 9 year-old daughter loved it too!

I have had five separate holidays at Lancrigg this year and I wouldn't keep returning if it wasn't the best place on earth!
It is such a magical place whatever the weather. The food is always first class and the rooms are individual and delightful. Friendly, welcoming staff make it a joy to visit Lancrigg.
I can't wait for the opportunity to have another few days there.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms at the front of the hotel have amazing views over the valley. All the rooms are bl...

Our stay at Lancrigg was made superb by it's location, excellent cooking and wonderfully friendly and helpful staff who couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our stay.
It was fantastic to be able to go on incredible walks from the front door.
The view from our window was just too good.
The decor reminded me of a clapped out B&B in the back of beyond and not a lovely house with superb views and an interesting history.
We expected much more of luxurious feel given the cost of staying there, but that said, the food and staff made up for the tired, shabby decor.

Room Tip: Corner room on the first floor

I can't fault Lancrigg. Lovely food, perfect location, great service, and my room (Maple) in the separate Kitty Crag house was exactly what I needed for a quiet, relaxing walking/cycling break. What a treat to walk with the deer on the way to breakfast. I can't wait to come back, both on my own, and with my family.

Room Tip: Provided you don't have mobility problems, the Kitty Crag house, 5 minutes walk from the hotel...

This place is superb, a wonderful peaceful location . It's great for walking in the hills and mountains with Helm Crag nearby. You have 2 options , the hotel or the B and B nearby. We opted for the B and B , Kitty Crag which is lovely. We had a short stroll through the woods every day to the hotel to eat . The food is veggie and vegan and its excellent. They also have a great variety of vegan beers. The staff were so helpful, it felt like we had become one of the family.
Whether you are veggie or not this is a great place to eat and it's open to non residents.
We will definitely be going back its the best hotel in the lakes by miles !

Room Tip: Most Rooms have mountain views ask for one

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lancrigg is set in the totally peaceful and picturesque village of Grasmere. We are situated just 800 yards from the the very busy village centre. The accommodation is comfortable and relaxing and makes a truly wonderful escape, access to the walks are right out of our door. There are no roads beyond Lancrigg, just the tumbling fells and streams. The house has many connections with past and present writers, artists and musicians. There is a sense of peace when relaxing at Lancrigg that nobody can quite put their finger on, some suggest it may be the water that flows under the building through the Helm Crag rock. The Lancrigg is open to non-residents with a fantastic variety of refreshments available from both the restaurant and The Poets Cafe & Bar which opens from 8:30am for breakfast and serves a classic lunch menu from 11am untill late. The restaurant is available from 6:30pm. The Lancrigg restaurant offers a fantastic menu to suit all diets. ... more   less
