We had one blissful night at Lancrigg just before going back to work after the festive rush. We spent most of our time in front of the fire in the lounge and enjoying the delicious food. It was wonderful to have so much choice of interesting vegan food for once. The grounds are beautiful and we managed a short stroll before heading off in the morning. We will definitely be back.

We've just returned from a wonderful New Year's break, two night stay, at Lancrigg. I think it is our sixth time of staying there over a twenty three year period. Being vegetarians Lancrigg is a must for a special break away. The setting near Grasmere could not be more perfect and peaceful. The house is of traditional Lake District build and has associations with many famous figures from Victorian Literature. The food is marvelous and caters for Vegetarians and Vegans with five options per night. The special five course New year's Eve dinner started with a poached pear in elderberry wine with Stilton, went on to a superb soup before stuffed nut and fruit loaf with all of the usual trimmings plus a few more special ones such as walnut and apple chutney. Individual Christmas puddings ( which I just could not manage every mouthful of) served with delicate brandy butter sauce ended the meal. The wine list is also good and they specialise in organic beers from small local breweries. Robert and Janet Wittington, the Proprietors, and their staff treat one with friendly respect. Going back is like settling down into an old favourite armchair with a spectacular view, and anticipating being served delicious food.

Room Tip: All rooms have good views except perhaps The Darwin Room where we've just been but even this is...

We heard that Lancrigg was offering an inclusive weekend break to celebrate Christmas early - at the end of November - just as we were thinking we needed our autumn fix of amazing food, delightful rooms, lakeland views and fresh air. An amazing weekend - including champagne with breakfast and a mammoth "Christmas Dinner "on the Saturday ... when for this special meal, the Green Valley restaurant served just one sitting - after an informal chat session hosted by proprietors Rob and Janet with all of us in the cosy lounge. This gave us the opportunity to get to know some of our fellow guests and swap festive food ideas (and recipes) with each other and our hosts ... a truly memorable evening. The rest of the weekend was equally lovely - it goes almost without saying that we will return soon.

Room Tip: Read the descriptions on the website to choose your room - they are all delightful in their own way...

I had previously stayed at Lancrigg 11 years ago and booked a short break as a pre-Christmas treat for myself (a vegan) and my husband (an omnivore). Both the hotel and restaurant were as wonderful as I remembered. The staff are charming and helpful from the instant you arrive and we got the impression that nothing was too much trouble for them.

The restaurant has a great menu which includes multiple vegan choices, and the wine list also has plenty of vegan wines on offer - it's the first time I've been able to drink wine since turning vegan! The Kir Anglais is well worth a try while relaxing in the lounge by the fire before having your wonderful 3-course dinner. The food is high quality, and the portions are good. Having had a 3-course dinner on the Friday night and then a fantastic 2-course breakfast (we weren't hungry enough for the 3rd course!) on the Saturday morning, we didn't need to eat again until dinner on Saturday evening.

The hotel is within walking distance of Grasmere, which is convenient, but is also set in its own grounds which gives it a feel of seclusion. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep - we didn't need to use the car until we left.

Room Tip: We stayed in Wainwright, which is a lovely room and has its own sitting room. It also has a spa bat...

My first visit to Lancrigg in over a year. Unfortunately the time away was too long. In fact I had only gone up to take a vegetarian friend from Austria and a carnivore from Manchester to try out the restaurant. They loved it so much we decided to stay the night. I can only say Lancrigg is like a fine wine, it seems to improve with age, as does the maitre d'hotel and his anecdotes!
This time however, I stayed in yet another beautiful room which I had never seen before, the 'Whittington', large and comfortable but still very cosy. Perfect for couples or families alike.
My friends were in the 'Booth Richardson', perfect for a romantic night, with the four poster bed and in room bath, I'm just waiting to hear the news in nine months time!
The food as usual was superb, yet another dish I had not sampled in over 30 years of visiting this fine establishment. The organic whisky is one of the best I have ever tasted, on par with the £150 bottle of Blue Label, but at a fraction of the cost.
I would love to go on, but I think I'll wait till the next visit. Bon appetit1

Room Tip: Take your pick, every one is different yet perfect. Rooms at the front have best views in the early...

Lancrigg is a wonderful place to enjoy the essence of the Lake District. I am a hiker and spent 13 days in two visits during November, 2013; I had visited twice before. The cuisine is excellent; varied and tasty. Service is helpful and friendly. The most frequent response to any request is,"of course you may" (eg get a bowl of soup, even though it is by now late afternoon). Bag lunches are prepared with a hungry hiker in mind. The location is exquisite: a short walk from pleasant and historic Grasmere, easy access to a number of walks for various tastes, and lovely views from one's book and cup of tea. It is a most peaceful place; I slept like the proverbial log. I will return.

We have been coming to Lancrigg for over 20 years and it never fails to impress. The setting is wonderful in the beautifully peaceful Easedale valley, most rooms having views of the valley, Easedale and Silver Howe fells. Each room has its own character, entirely in keeping with the age of the house, although many of the rooms do have a whirlpool bath for that added luxury.
The restaurant is completely vegetarian with vegan options, and the food is delicious. Can't wait now for our next visit :)

Room Tip: Our favourite room is Silver Howe, followed by Richardson and Azalea. Wordsworth and Dickens are als...
