Me and my partner stayed for one night and from the get go we were taken back by the beautiful surrounding valleys and countryside.

We arrived at Lancrigg on the Friday at 4pm and was greeted by staff members who were nothing short of exemplary in terms of making us feel welcome, giving us a tour of the hotel, restaurant and grounds before taking us to our room (Azalea Suite).

After check in we ordered some lunch and sat in the garden at the front of the hotel, where you have absolutely stunning views. I had soup and the missus had a salad and the quality of the food is outstanding. We were impressed with the portion sizes as well, very substantial.

After lunch we decided to go on one of many breath taking walks to Helms Crag, which is situated at the rear of Lancrigg. With it being bank holiday weekend it is always going to be busy but with Lancrigg being in Grasmere, just past Ambleside, it was quiet and peaceful. Just what we needed. If you're after a little more action, such as pub crawls etc the villages are only 20 minutes away.

After our walk we returned for our evening meal at Lancrigg. We got a package deal, which included the evening meal and breakfast. The evening menu had a wide range of options from nut roasts to vegetarian fish and chips. The food and wine was of a very high standard. Lancrigg did not disappoint.

In addition to this, the service from the staff was gold standard. We found them friendly, approachable and extremely knowledgable about all aspects of our stay. Nothing was too much trouble.

In the morning we were impressed by the standard and portion size of breakfast as well as the un compromised work ethic and standard of service the staff deliver. We had granola to start followed by a substantial veggie breakfast, which was delicious.

After breakfast we ordered a picnic from the hotel, which consisted of an apple, pear, flapjack and sandwich before going to Easedale Tarn. Easedale Tarn is about a 50 minutes from the hotel, which takes you up picturesque mountains before arrival at the Tarn presenting lovely views across Grasmere and a peaceful lake to have your picnic. Stunning.

In all we are very happy with our stay at Lancrigg. The premises, food, staff, views and walks did not disappoint.

Highly recommended. Has everything.

We stayed for three nights as a welcome break from a very busy workload.

'As always, excellent, relaxed welcoming atmosphere, home from home - but better food!

It is such a pleasure to be able to have such a wonderful choice at mealtimes. Not a highly polished boutique hotel - but we wouldn't want it any other way. We love staying at Lancrigg - the perfect place to de-stress.

Room Tip: We always try to stay in Silver Howe, it has magnificent views, lovely to sit in the window and gaze out over the beautiful Lakeland scenery.

We have had two wonderful weekends at Lancrigg in the last 6 months. Excellent room, food, atmosphere ... both times. The vegan dinners and breakfasts were the best I've had in a hotel in over 35 years of being a vegan - and with a choice for each course too!

'Constantly searching for hotels and restaurants that fit in with our organic principles, without much success, we were delighted to find this gem of a retreat in such a beautiful area. We loved everything about it; the tranquil setting; the quirky touches; the toxin free products; wonderful staff and not forgetting the fabulous food. We will, without a doubt, be regular visitors to Lancrigg.'

Me and my partner booked to stay at Lancrigg for two nights. We had our dog with us so we needed somewhere dog friendly and here they really were! The staff were just first class, couldn't fault them. They were so welcoming, helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The dog was allowed to join us in the lounge for drinks at the end of the night and she could be left in the room if we wanted to go into grasmere (which is only down the rd). Although we are not vegetarians the food was amazing and well worth the value! Although the hotel does need a few touch ups here and there for the price it's worth the money. If you are just looking for a homely place to stay and with fantastic walks right on the doorstep then Lancrigg is perfect! Would go back again tomorrow!

Room Tip: If you go for one of the classic rooms then the Darwin is perfect! And spacious enough with a dog.
