Honeymooned here earlier in the week, couldn't have picked a better spot!!
Found the place fine, set back just outside Grasmere village in an incredibly beautiful valley. Keswick and Ambleside located only a few miles away. The rooms were comfortable, well presented and very clean. Staff were very helpful and saw to our every need. The food was superb, really high end vegetarian/vegan cooking. Lots of history in the place, which you can read up on in the welcome guide and then further so in the many books in the drawing room. There are a lot of walks in the area ranging from a few minutes to a few hours, just ask the staff or consult the welcome guide again! My wife and I had a very relaxing, quiet stay and will definitely be back!

Stayed here for second time for 3 nights in July. Fabulous weather made grasmere and lancrigg look even better than we remembered it. Staff were all lovely and particularly attentive and friendly at mealtimes. Food was superb. How we managed to eat three courses each evening I'll never know but it looked and tasted so delicious we couldn't help ourselves. We have been vegetarian for over 30 years and would say this is some of the best food we have eaten! The only criticism would be that our room looked tired and was a little more shabby than chic however we will definitely stay there again and would thoroughly recommend.

We were looking for a beautiful setting, a comfortable room and excellent vegetarian food. We found them all at Lancrigg. The atmosphere is warm, staff friendly and helpful, and, since there are only nine rooms, fellow guests' faces quickly become familiar and cross-table conversations develop. The outstanding food is served in an intimate dining room and next door the homely lounge has squashy sofas, books and games and free wi-fi for those who can't do without it.. There are stunning views from every window and the terrace, and a few steps take you into the woods surrounding the house, where William Wordsworth strolled and composed his peerless poetry while his sister Dorothy sat on a stone, now marked, and recorded his words. .We loved it and most certainly hope to return.

Room Tip: The only ground floor room is large, comfortable and full of character.

This is one of the best hotels I've ever been to. It is a beautifully located place, close to nature and walking paths. What a great location!

The food was AMAZING ! - I'm not vegetarian but this didn't matter, everything was prepared to such a high standard, it looked so good and tasted lovely.

The owners are so friendly and the staff are nice and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable, and the place felt homely and fresh. This hotel accommodates every need.

I want to thank Rob, Janet and Mike personally for making our stay really special, I will recommend it to everyone I know, and will be definitely be coming back again :)

Gosia x

As vegans, we were amazed by the variety and quality of food that was offered for us. Really, this chef knows what they are doing. With our pooch Molly in tow, it was perfect. We could go straight out the door into great little walks with her. Beautiful scenery.

My husband was in heaven when he found this listing, and it fully lived up to the hype. Our room is one of the most romantic we have ever stayed in! It had a claw-foot tub with lace draping; a four-poster bed with same; a charming sitting area looking out onto the lawns in the near area and the hills in the distance, and a fireplace (not used, but picturesque). It was right next door to the dining room where all the meals were served--which made us nervous, but not to worry--no sound bled through. After so often having to go through a huge hassle to find someplace my husband feels comfortable eating, it was such a relief to have excellent vegetarian fare without having to search for it. Breakfast comes with the room, and we also ate dinner there two of the three nights we stayed. Superb vegetarian food! It's a little out of the way to get to, but well worth it. The views are serenely beautiful. We took a hike up to Easedale Waterfall and Easedale Tarn (a lake) that was just gorgeous. (It was about an hour each way from Lancrigg.) It was wonderful to be out in the air away from the crowds, just hobnobbing with the sheep. All in all, a spectacular place. If we knew then what we know now, we would have stayed longer!!

Room Tip: Ours was the one right beyond the dining room. I forget the name. It was fabulous.

This is a hotel with an ethos that really encourages guests to settle in, relax and take it easy while offering great access to hill walks and the countryside. Located in Grasmere it's very easy to get to all the locales that are free from masses of tourists doing the rounds. Food is excellent, the hotel is clean and quiet, and the staff are courteous and helpful.

We would readily recommend to anyone that wants a change from the formulaic and would appreciate a smaller hotel with real charm.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the larger rooms with seating and views over the hills.
