“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

Stayed for a couple of nights in October on a voucher deal and had a lovely time. The location is stunning; it's a great base for walking.

Can't fault the staff as everyone was very helpful. Hubby was pleased to see a real ale in the walkers' bar (assumed there was none based on pictures) but it would be nice to see more.

Our room was very modern and large with a huge, comfy bed. The bathroom had a big bath (perhaps a tad long for my little legs but great if you're tall!) and a great walk in shower.

Although we've had breakfast served to our table in similar bracket hotels in the past, I didn't mind the buffet style. There was a good selection that was filled regularly.

We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was fine for the price we paid. It was more "home cooked" than the higher end I would have expected but tasty nonetheless. The presentation of the main courses and starters did give us a chuckle -paper doilies?! Anyway, service again was excellent in the restaurant.

Sorry to say we didn't try the spa but hope to if we visit again. Thank you for a lovely break.

Stayed here in the summer of 2012. We thought the hotel was really great. Our room was very spacious with a very nice bathroom. It overlooked the lake which was really nice. Staff were really friendly. Breakfast menu was also great. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Stayed in a lake view room

Newly refurbished to a high standard. We had the basic room and it was great; fabulous power shower, lovely tea try, molten brown toiletries - all presented beautifully. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic, helpful without intruding. Will definitely return.

Currently staying at the hotel. Fabulous location and staff extremely friendly, helpful and polite. spotlessly clean decor a little stark in some areas
The restaurant: cooked my difficult husband's steak to perfection and my duck was delicious however, we felt we were sat in a canteen with the area totally lacking in ambience. It was too bright and impersonal. The staff were great.

The rooms were ok. Clean and crisp bedding, very comfy bed however the lighting was shocking. Energy halogens and the equivalent of a torch for a bedside light. There was also a constant banging sound of either the lift doors or something else.

The spa area was lovely but I recommend you book well in advance and the treatments are very overpriced.

Would we visit again ? Probably - due to location and I'm sure some of the above are teething problems.

Had three night stay over Christmas and found this newly revamped hotel hit the spot. All staff and mngt were most attentive and happy to work to ensure that everyone's stay was excellent. Our suite was great with a very large and comfy bed. Both the restaurant and function rooms were good and the spa/pool is a quiet kid-free zone. highly recommended!

Room Tip: Master suite room is good if you're staying for a few days to spread out!

My boyfriend and I stayed here over the Christmas period and were not disappointed. The rooms are well decorated and spacious and we were greeted with a towel shaped as Rudolph when we walked into the room. The bed is fantastically luxurious and the bathroom fitted to a high standard. The lights above the sink were a nice touch but a little erratic. We opted for a lake view room (105) and, despite the mist and rain every morning, enjoyed waking up to the view

The food and service was fantastic. The friendliness and care of the staff made the hotel feel like a small, family hotel run hotel. The waitress (Dominica) we had on the first night checked in with us at every meal to ensure we were ok and to ask how our day had been whether she was serving us or not. The little touches such as the Christmas stocking and Santa at breakfast with little presents were appreciated. The hotel put on entertainment such as an after-dinner speaker, a quiz and a treasure hunt which were a great way to meet fellow guests and to get out and explore Grasmere (which is a stunning little village) after eating piles of food.

We did not visit the Spa but heard from numerous guests that it was great and relaxing, as every good spa should be.

I have never written a review before but decided that this experience was too good to keep quiet about. I have already recommended the hotel to friends and family and will be going back in the new year.
