“Good value modern hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2013

Like others, we found varying prices on different websites. We booked with Easy Breaks at £99 dinner, bed and breakfast for both of us. This included £60 to spend on dinner from the menu, when you take into consideration that the breakfast was advertised at £15 per person, it was a very good rate! The hotel is modern and newly decorated and staff are friendly. There seemed to be a few mix ups during dinner service, with some people having to wait a long time for their main course. Breakfast was buffet style and good.

We were originally allocated a room next to the air conditioning vents, and were quickly moved to a 3rd floor room when we complained.

We picked up a leaflet of short walks from reception and did all 3. The spa was good, with steam room, sauna and a huge jacuzzi rather than a swimming pool. The hotel is on the banks of the lake and is a short walk into Grasmere. I'd recommend tweedies for an evening drink.

We'll certainly go back to Daffodil, especially if we got such a good deal!

Refurbishment of the hotel is excellent - rooms are of a good size, beautifully furnished and well stocked with teas/coffees, bath goodies etc. Only problem was the plug in the bath and working out how to use it - just press it down and it opens/closes. For us, wonderful value for money with dinner, bed and breakfast for £249 via Telegraph Selected. Dinner and breakfast were very good with quite a varied menu and breakfast was of the buffet type with a very good variety available. Very friendly and courteous staff throughout the hotel. Used the Spa - took advantage of their offer and had two treatments each - felt really relaxed afterwards. Thermal pool was a good size, great massage showers and very clean. Changing rooms were very well finished, with Moulton Brown toiletries. We had Room 209 which overlooked the car park, but could also see the hills surrounding the area and could just see the lake - absolutely nothing to complain about.

As noted else, prices vary.... 2 people for 3 nights, B&B, was £264 via Booking.com...and £660 elsewhere... but even full price, this is delightful and worth the spend.
The location is superb, overlooking the lake. Bedrooms, bethrooms and decor are of an exceptionally high standard. Dinner was not over-priced and quality was very high. Service wasn't exceptional, but no complaints at all. An ideal base for touring the area... All in all, an excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms are quite a wee trek to get to... you might want to avoid those with the 20s suffix...

Ultra modern hotel, slightly quirky but done very well. Friendly staff greet your, hotel is kept immaculate, rooms simple but nicely done (lake view rooms have wonderful views) and a great breakfast. Lovely lounge adjacent to the restaurant, however, strangely you walk through the restaurant to go to the bar. Without exception the staff are cheerful, friendly and professional.

Keen walkers should note that the hotel really can't cope with muddy boots and wet walking gear, though we were provided with some grocery boxes for the bedrooms.

Overall a very memorable experience.

This is a brand new hotel but more akin to something you would find at an airport and not across the road from Dove Cottage and Grasmere. Not sure what Wordsworth would have made of it - certainly not a golden daffodil. It was a last minute decision but would not stay here again. The rooms and are perfectly smart and comfortable - no robes to go down to the spa. Wish I had known that you can't really swim in the pool - but good acqua therapies and jets so worth a visit even if you have to drip dry your way back to the room in a towel. I haven't got much more to say other than we didn't eat here as the menu looked like a pretty basic grill selection. Not too far to walk into Grasmere which is fun - especially at Tweedies'.

Room Tip: Get a view over the lake

Having read other reviews on The Daffodil Hotel, I think there may be fairly big differences in the prices guests are paying. We booked the hotel through Classic Britain, and pound for pound, I think this is the best value hotel we've ever stayed in. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate and frankly, I'm not sure how they did it!

We were offered a free upgrade upon arrival to a Valley View room. The room itself was spacious and absolutely immaculate. There was a good hospitality tray and bottled water. There was an excellent Smart TV, hairdryer, iron/ironing board (not that I used them!) and a safe. The bed and pillows were very comfortable indeed (and the bed was huge!). Having been recently refurbished, the décor throughout the hotel is still very fresh and modern.

The bathroom was spotless, with a separate bathtub (deep and long) and shower. The Molton Brown toiletries were a very welcome little touch of luxury. My only criticism is that while there was bath/shower gel and shampoo there wasn't any conditioner!

Our rate was inclusive of dinner, and we were allowed £30 per person. This is enough to cover most of a three course meal (even if you chose the three most expensive dishes for each course). The food was good quality standard hotel fare - nothing terribly fancy but well cooked and tasty. The breakfasts were excellent too - buffet style, but again, everything was kept hot and regularly replenished.

The spa was very relaxing. The pool is a thermal pool - not intended for swimming, but a great place to unwind. The steam room and sauna were lovely too.

The service was excellent and the staff were all pleasant, courteous and helpful. The location was good - a perfect base in the centre of the Lakes.

I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, value stay in a hotel that I think deserves its 4 stars.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor and overlooking the valley are quiet and comfortable.

The hotel only opened in 2012 and so everything is brand new. Our Lake View room was spacious with a huge bed. There are a few minor design faults however, such as the bathroom mirror which has a sensor switch at the bottom so flashes on/off everytime you use the washbasin tap which is directly below it! Also the wardrobe is somewhat small and awkward to get clothes in/out.
All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and the food & service in the restaurant was excellent without being pretentious or over fussy.
We shall return.

Room Tip: Lake view recommended.
