I, the bride, booked a 2 night stay here for our mini moon. We were advised that it was one of the best and nicest hotels in the area. We have been fortunate enough to experience quite a few hotels in the country due to working in events so we have a lot of experiences to compare this to.

When I originally booked this I asked for the master suite, the hotel called me to advise that we would be better in a junior suite as it had a better view of the lake from all areas of the room. That was not entirely true as you could only really see the lake when you were stood at the window, along with patio furniture that was thrown everywhere, old wooden pallets on the grass-not the immaculate areas you would expect at a hotel of this calibre.

On arrival the welcome was warm and there was a card in the room, however in the hotel we had stayed the night before we were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of champagne.

The suite was spacious but basic. The bed was huge and very comfortable. However, the suite was next door to the laundry store and housekeeping staff were not quiet at all, banging around from 8am through to 9pm both days. Also, on walking through the hotel, there were always piles of sheets, clean and dirty, hovers, cleaning trolleys left in corridors with not a single member of staff in sight. Again, not what we would expect from a hotel of this calibre.

We ate in the restaurant both nights. The menu is limited, the service is appalling and the quality of food was average. After highlighting one issue, the waiting staff then avoided coming to our table and never once asked again if everything was ok.

We had a brief experience in the spa as it was supposedly fully booked even though during our time in their, there were at least 2 members of staff constantly stood around doing very little. It was pleasant. The treatment we did have was advertised as the most popular but we definitely wouldn't have it again.

Finally on check out, the receptionist asked if we'd enjoyed our stay when we said it could have been better and began to tell her about the noisy housekeeping staff, she responded with an apology but clearly did not want to hear any further issues.

In summary, we know of loads of hotels that would have appreciated the £1000 we spent here a lot more and would have looked after us a lot better.

We would NEVER recommend this hotel unless it was on budget deal as it is very over priced and we would NEVER stay here again!

Very sad as our wedding day was the best day of our lives and the hotel we had it at were amazing, but we are looking forward to our full honeymoon later this year to make up for the poor mini moon!

We booked a 2 night stay at The Daffodil as a last minute minimoon. We appeared to get a good deal using their "Come Dine with Us" offer. When we arrived we were quickly checked in, booked a table for 8.15pm and went up to our Junior Suite room. The room and communal areas were clean and spacious and the bed was very large and comfortable.

We went down and used the spa soon after we arrived. It was nice and clean but its not a swimming pool for swimming in. The jacuzzi is within the main swimming pool and beware sitting close to the power jets in the pool as you end up getting sprayed by water.

We went down to the sitting room at about 7.30 for a drink before our meal which was quiet and nicely decorated. As we were given a menu to peruse during this time when we sat down for our meal at 8.15 they took our order straight away - for starter and main. Soon after this we were presented with an amuse-bouche. This was very tasty. We then began our wait for our starters......

About 45 minutes later a waiter came across to assure us he had checked with the chef that our meal was on its way....this was a polite touch however 10 minutes later we were presented with our main course. They were apologetic when we pointed out we were yet to receive our starters. These were then quickly delivered to us.

I had ordered seabass and my partner had ordered venison "medium-rare" with a side or seasonal greens.

Soon after we had finished our starters we were presented with our main meals minus the seasonal greens. It was quite apparent they had been sat on hot plate, the venison was now well done.

We appreciate things do not always run smoothly and the proof of a good hotel is how these problems are dealt with. To this end we cannot fault The Daffodil for discounting our stay due to our less than 5 star experience.

The service at breakfast the following morning was to a similar disappointing standard, simple things like tea and coffee being served without milk and the hot food buffet running low on several things and we watched a couple wait more than 20 minutes for scrambled eggs...they still hadn't got them when we left.

However when we went down to breakfast the following morning it was like we were in a different hotel! Service was fantastic, quickly seated, given hot drinks within a couple of minutes and M's order of scrambled eggs and salmon was delivered very quickly.

Overall this is a smart hotel in a lovely setting. Service could definitely be improved upon and did spoil our stay however we did get the opportunity to see the hotel at its best on our final morning, it was just a shame it wasn't the same throughout.

We booked this hotel for a new year break and it looked like a lovely hotel but we were blown away from arrival to departure. The decor is modern and sophisticated and rooms very spacious, however what makes the hotel is the service which is as good as you would find in any 5 star hotel in the world. Attentive staff, fantastic attention to detail and each member of the team makes you feel valued. I will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking for an excellent standard of accommodation in a gorgeous setting in the lakes.

Room Tip: Superior rooms don't have a view so if you want a special view too - go for valley or lake view rooms. We were on the 1st floor (same as restaurant for breakfast) in a superior and didn't have a great view but it was still a lovely room.

Thank you to the staff at the Daffodil for truly memorable occasion ,the event was inspired, the dining room looked amazing, the band were very good and the dance floor was full all evening.
The fireworks were magical and long lasting .
The only thing that stops me rating it excellent was a delay in our drinks order and a main course, both of which were pre ordered on the day. The staff were very apologetic and it was the only blip on what has been a fantastic New Years Eve.
Ps, The superior rooms we had were stated as ,not with lake view, but did have a valley view and were beautifully appointed and quiet. The reception staff deserve a special mention as excellent but all were very pleasant and courteous .
We did not visit the spar , perhaps next time.

Room Tip: The two superior rooms we had stated without lake view ,we could have paid more for ones with, check when booking.

Stayed for a surprise birthday treat and it was a treat indeed. The rooms are lovely really modern with fantastic facilities I especially love the televisions that are at the end of the bed! The bathrooms were modern and the shower was so powerful you felt more then squeaky clean The breakfast was fantastic a wide fresh selection! Both cooked and cold breakfast were available. The cocktails in the hotel were lovely too, and very moorish. The town is lovely especially the ginger bread factory. Even went to the theatre during my stay. The spa was nice steam room and sauna was great but remember that the pool isn't for swimming its a spa pool to avoid any confusion. The staff in the spa could cheer up more and be more approachable, it's certainly unprofessional to be stood there gossiping which one another instead of serving people and just telling us to throw our towels over there with dismissal in your tone but that didn't spoil our stay! Would definitely return!
