“Lovely hotels, service leaves alot to be desired!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We have just come back from a birthday treat for my husband. Booked online and get a fantastic deal, we only live 20 minutes away and it was a last minute treat. We have stayed a a few different hotels in the Lake District over the last 15 years, to take advantage of what is on our door step.

Arrived and quickly checked in, dropped our bags in the room and headed straight to dinner in the restaurant, we ordered mains (2 steaks) and drinks then waited 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and only after asking!!! The restaurant had 3 other couples and 4 members of staff so, this should not have have been a problem. Ordered puddings and had to ask again for another round of drinks. The next day went for breakfast which was by far the best service, but then they only had to bring tea and coffee, the rest was self service!!!!!.

We had brought our kayak and as the hotel has lake access, we got wet being out on the lake so went to the nearest down stairs bar (we were sat just out side this bar)and I went to order some drinks and food I got my drink after waiting again and being walked past by 2 members of staff, then was told to go upstairs to order food. I was very wet after being in the lake so did not want to get water everywhere and there was menus on the tables outside ?????? Then I went back out and my husband ordered a beer, but after looking for staff to order another. No one would take another order.

We then booked into the spa for a rusal mud treatment, very lovely and special for my other halfs. After out treatment we went to the relaxation room and the therapist would bring us a drink, no choice just water in a plastic cup.... For a high end spa this was not what I had expected and in all the spas I have visited have near had a plastic cup also no music in this room either.

After using the spa hydro pool which was absolutely lush, we then went back to our room to get ready for dinner, I rang reception and asked for some fresh milk for a cup of tea, 20 minutes later I rang again as it hadn't arrived and after waiting an hour my husband went to the bar to get some, to be met by 3 members of staff stood talking..... No apology was given at any point. We then eat out for dinner, as was getting sick of the lack of service. On checking out I total the receptionist, she would pass my comments on....... Wonder if they will......

There was plenty of staff around so this was not an issue, the issue was that very few of the staff looked happy in there job and this showed the the service or lack of they gave,

Lovely hotel, lovely spa the service was a thumbs down .

After wanting to go for afternoon tea for weeks my husband finally took me.

We arrived and were seated promptly, and told someone would be with us shortly, someone came and gave us a glass of water.

Then we sat for well over 20 minutes, after seeing a table of 5 seated next to us and seated and served within 5 minutes we got up and left.

I was left disappointed and let down due to the very poor service.

The owners are to be complimented for doing something different. It is quirky but loses nothing in its attempt to be different.

The spa is v good and the position outstanding. Our suite was the molten brown suite and was very spacious.

Breakfast excellent and Thatchers Gold cider on draught. What a bonus!!

Worth a visit but be warned, it is unusual for the Lakes.

We stayed here for my birthday and what can i say what a treat ! The hotel doesn't look so appetising from the outside but once in it was a real surprise.
The rooms a spacious and comfy with nice views of the peaceful lake and very tastefully decorated and clean.
I was treated too the simply indulge treatments with use of the hydrotherapy pool also followed by afternoon tea.
The spa treatment went on forever as so many places we have visited seem to rush you but NOT HERE you are pampered and relaxed from the minute you arrive.
Afternoon tea was served with a glass of champagne and everything was delicious especially the mini meringue !
If your looking to pamper the other half you wont go wrong here. 10 out of 10

A recent visit for afternoon tea, the hotel sits on its own grounds, the hotel has undergone major refurbishment and the reception area, was more like a slick city hotel than a Cumbrian retreat. Nestling on the shores of Grasmere the grounds are laid to rough grass and ample outside seating area.
A bit of a mix up over our pre-booked visit, the staff were friendly but only just we were not offered refills of tea or a glass of preseco. Had a visit to the Spa and asked if we could look around we were shown the pool then the member of staff disappeared. We were going to book a spa day but had second thoughts.
The tea was a little disappointing but ok.

After receiving email confirmation from Albert the F&B manager on our booking for 3 people. We arrived. Hotel was quite we were met buy a staff member at restaurant who we informed we had booked afternoon tea for 3. He had very poor English and replied with LUNCH. Then another staff member arrived we explained we had booked. Ow the party of 2 or party of 6. No the party of 3. Ow would u like to see our afternoon tea menu then. Yes but we have booked. In the process we were again sat at a table of lunch and given lunch menus explaining agin we had booked afternoon tea. Then we moved to a afternoon tea table as we asked to sit in the window. Then the waiter tried to give us soup once again no afternoon tea. 45mins later afternoon tea arrived for 3 after they had tried to suggest your better having it for 2 as it's so large we insisted on 3 it arrived it wasn't large there was nobody trying to up sale anything like adding champagne just trying to get us to have less afternoon tea. The staff were either half asleep or just couldn't be bothered. We were looking forward to visiting after looking on line at the hotel over the months and were from the catering industry we won't be rushing back at all.

We went as a couple to celebrate my husbands birthday. The hotel is beautiful and the staff were friendly. I asked for a lake view when I booked and a lake view we got! Gorgeous. Breakfasts were perfect, everything you could hope for and the position of the hotel is ideal for a stroll into Grasmere. We are out at Potted Out in Grasmere on both evenings as we enjoyed it so much on the first night. The weather was beautiful so we say outside and could have been sitting in Spain! The hotel is also a short drive (5mins) to Ambleside which is another nice village and about a 20min drive to Windermere. I would recommend this hotel.
