We have just come back from a birthday treat for my husband. Booked online and get a fantastic deal, we only live 20 minutes away and it was a last minute treat. We have stayed a a few different hotels in the Lake District over the last 15 years, to take advantage of what is on our door step.
Arrived and quickly checked in, dropped our bags in the room and headed straight to dinner in the restaurant, we ordered mains (2 steaks) and drinks then waited 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and only after asking!!! The restaurant had 3 other couples and 4 members of staff so, this should not have have been a problem. Ordered puddings and had to ask again for another round of drinks. The next day went for breakfast which was by far the best service, but then they only had to bring tea and coffee, the rest was self service!!!!!.
We had brought our kayak and as the hotel has lake access, we got wet being out on the lake so went to the nearest down stairs bar (we were sat just out side this bar)and I went to order some drinks and food I got my drink after waiting again and being walked past by 2 members of staff, then was told to go upstairs to order food. I was very wet after being in the lake so did not want to get water everywhere and there was menus on the tables outside ?????? Then I went back out and my husband ordered a beer, but after looking for staff to order another. No one would take another order.
We then booked into the spa for a rusal mud treatment, very lovely and special for my other halfs. After out treatment we went to the relaxation room and the therapist would bring us a drink, no choice just water in a plastic cup.... For a high end spa this was not what I had expected and in all the spas I have visited have near had a plastic cup also no music in this room either.
After using the spa hydro pool which was absolutely lush, we then went back to our room to get ready for dinner, I rang reception and asked for some fresh milk for a cup of tea, 20 minutes later I rang again as it hadn't arrived and after waiting an hour my husband went to the bar to get some, to be met by 3 members of staff stood talking..... No apology was given at any point. We then eat out for dinner, as was getting sick of the lack of service. On checking out I total the receptionist, she would pass my comments on....... Wonder if they will......
There was plenty of staff around so this was not an issue, the issue was that very few of the staff looked happy in there job and this showed the the service or lack of they gave,
Lovely hotel, lovely spa the service was a thumbs down .
