“Great for children”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

This is a fabulous NT property on a bank just above Grasmere.
It has been partially restored with other areas being left alone to show how the house would have been.
There are lovely walks in the grounds and you are encouraged to picnic there. Inside there are lots of themed rooms and it is very hands on. It is perfect for children (young and young at heart!) as there are no don't touch signs. There is an art room, a games room and a typewriter room to name a few.
There is a recently opened cafe where you can help yourselves to free tea and coffee (donations welcome) and buy yummy homemade cakes and the like.
They encourage you to sit in the rooms with a cuppa reading or just enjoying the views over the Lake.
There is a fee for non NT members and there is no parking (except for blue badge holders).
All in all it us a fabulous place to while away a few hours in all kinds of weather.

“Love this place.....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

This house is amazing - I could just move in. It has fantastic views across to Grasmere. The National Trust are working to maintain the building and at the same time encourage people to see what it would have been like to have lived there. Great for children, very hands on and some fun activities. The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed a walk all the way round and a sunny seat outside the summer house. The cafe is also amazing. Just love this place.....

“A Great NT Property!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

We popped in when staying in Grasmere, it was almost an afterthought but we are so glad we did! The volunteers are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and the way the building has been developed is brave and successful. Instead of walking around a restored historic property the activity-based structure of the rooms means you can draw, write, read, play board games and much more! The gardens are quiet with walks. Let's hope that other appropriate NT properties are developed in a similar way.

“Home on a hill...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

There is quite a walk to this attraction owned by the National Trust, but it is completely worth it. It was a gorgeous house and you can sit on the traditional swing and go high and also, you can sit outside with a cup of tea and look at the scenery. They recently have opened a cafe in March. It is beautiful, with scrumptious delights. The art room is fantastic, and you can pin up your painting on an empty frame. Allan Bank is a nice area and is located up a hill. Wordsworth lived here once, and it is a place of history, mystery and magic. You have to pay unless you have a National Trust membership, that is a great thing to get.

“Worsdworth knew a good view when he saw one!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Allan Bank is possibly situated in one of the best locations in all of Grasmere. OK you have to walk slightly out of town but the walk up the bank is well worth it when you see the views. No wonder Wordsworth lived here! The staff are very welcoming and the home made cakes yummy.
