“Best croissants outside of Paris ..”
Reviewed 24 April 2012

I recently stayed at Dale Lodge with my elderly mother. Her room on the ground floor was perfect for someone with walking difficulties, as she has. The bathroom with its walk in shower made it very easy for her to use. My room on the first floor was comfortable and very pretty, overlooking the gardens. The welcome was very warm from the owner of the hotel and throughout our stay she was exceptionally helpful. However, the outstanding aspect of the hotel was its food, served both in the hotel and in the adjoining Tweedies. I had a superb dinner of local lamb served two ways and the croissants for breakfast were home-made and incredibly good ... easily as good as the best you could buy in Paris. My mother thought the cooked breakfast, using locally sourced ingredients, was top notch.

First impressions were good. Made to feel welcome by staff. Our room was a little small but adequate and the facilities - TV, tea/coffee and wi-fi were good. A little cold in the mornining, but I do get up early.

We ate breakfast (lots of it) and dinner in the restaurant and could not complain about anything, in fact, my compliments to the chef.

Went into Tweedies bar after dinner for a few relaxing drinks. The whole experience was enjoyable and would we would recommend and return.

We stayed at the Dale Lodge for 2 nights during our 1 week honeymoon in the lakes. The hotel was really lovely & situated in the centre of Grasmere. The food in the restaurant was superb! On arrival the staff were pleasant but not over friendly. The restaurant staff were all very pleasant, polite & worked very hard. On departure we settled our bill but we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay etc, Upon booking we were offered champagne, flowers &chocolates in our room for a cost of £60 but declined. We left Grasmere & went north to Bassenthwaite near Keswick. This hotel was different again! They were so friendly they couldn't do enough to please! They left a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room with a wedding card and confetti! The Dale lodge could do with an injection if friendiness like this

Room Tip: Room 9 is classed as the best room in the hotel. It is very comfortable with a double bed, a sofa, e...

My family of 10 adults stayed for two nights at this Hotel in April 2012 which was very comfortable for a special 80th birthday celebration. Mews Lodges were excellent with Hot Tub for the younger ones. Breakfast was very satisfying as were two Dinners with good choice of courses. Service at meals was rather slow as Hotel appeared to have minimum of staff, who were always polite attentive and courteous. Linked Tweedies Bar (open to public) is very popular and may affect service of meals in Hotel. Overall would recommend for good value in this lovely village, always busy with tourists but excellent centre for walking and famous excellent Wordsworth Museum.

Room Tip: All Mews Cottages are fine. Select Hotel room personally.

This is a lovely hotel with a warm (very warm!) relaxed vibe. The public areas are done very nicely. Our room was nicely decorated but very dark with no view from the window. The mattress was lack lustre. We accepted this as we stayed on a KGB deal. It was really good value for money so we had no grounds to complain. Our concern over a radiator problem was dealt with efficiently and the staff seemed very nice. We ate at Tweedies which was nice, especially with the wine voucher offered. It has exactly the same menu as the more formal hotel dining room. The breakfast was one of the best I’ve had – great quality and cooked to perfection. Staff did have to double up with reception and restaurant duties, so to save complaints it would be good to have a bell at reception to summon help rather than in the porch! Overall a good experience. Nice.

My husband & I recently had a fantastic stay at Dale Lodge. It was a Groupon voucher given to us as a Xmas gift & we took the opportunity to upgrade to one of the Mews rooms. The room has a lounge area, bathroom & the bedroom is on a mezzanine floor. It was slightly more narrow than I was expecting but was a lovely room. A highlight was the hot tub that the 4 mews rooms had access to which was perfect after a day hiking. One gripe is it is a bit exposed & would be perfect if it was more private.

Breakfast was one of the nicest I've had in a long time. I liked that they served until 10am so no rushing & a great selection. Food was freshly cooked and beautiful. We ate in the hotel restaurant also one night & were not disappointed. Great choice & reasonably priced.

Attached to the hotel is a pub, great choice & live music on a Sat night.

Grasmere itself is only small but a gorgeous little village. It's a great base for some local walks & visiting the Lakes. We will definitely be visiting again.

Stayed here in Feb 2012 with my partner for two nights, mid-week. The weather was awful so we stayed in the hotel quite a bit. Ample space outside for parking vehicles. The interior of the hotel is well decorated, especially the lounge and dining areas. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The room we had was small, again clean but very pokey. Bed was comfy, plenty tea and coffee available in the room and if you run out they have more stock out in the corridor for guests to take. The bathroom was clean, however, the shower was a joke. It was either cold or scolding hot. The Molton Brown toiletries were a nice touch though. We ate on one evening at the hotel restaurant and the food and service was really good. We were even offered a voucher to use for a free bottle of wine. Breakfast was excellent. Really good choice, especially the hot breakfast selection, and attentive staff at breakfast time. The reception staff seem pleasant enough but not enough of them. On check-out there was no one around as the one staff member was serving breakfast, so we left the keys to the room at the front desk. All in all a pleasant stay but could be improved in places.
