we stay in grasmere once every few months as we love it!
this was our first time at dale lodge. its a nice, good hotel. the location is perfect.
but..................
we paid extra for a superior room. there was nothing superior about it. just a good standard room. for what we paid you can get a lot better in grasmere.
its clean. the showers could do with updating / being made more powerful.
breakfast is good. just standard really.
we didnt eat evening meal there we ate in tweedies bar attatched to it. weve been there before - the chef is amazing. u wont find a better meal anywhere!!
our biggest let down - the staff. one girl in particular. the girl on reception who books you in and serves breakfast. she didnt do anything wrong, but has no customer service skills at all. we felt like we were doing her a favour. looked miserable all the time and was like a robot going through the motions.
the rest of the staff were ok - just did their job. think some customer service courses are needed. this one person (feel bad pointing out an individual but being honest!) is what pretty much spoils the hotel atmosphere, and its a shame as thats when u cant help but look for other faults at the hotel as well!
a nice hotel, just not worth its price, and thats not helped by the service - there is better.

We stayed in a mews room for 2 nights. The rooms are lovely and come with a hot tub which is great. The hotel itself is also lovely and in a great location in the heart of grasmere. Although the location and facilities were great, we we're let down by the service received through the weekend by the hotel and the restaurant. There were a number of issues:
- the room was not ready until about an hour after the 3pm check in time, which was a bit of a pain when you've travelled a long way to get there;
- despite the restaurant being quite quiet, the service in the hotel restaurant was poor, very slow (2 hours for 2 courses), desserts ordered and didn't arrive etc. We did receive some money off our bill for this which was appreciated but let down the evening;
- our room was not serviced during our stay;
- breakfast is also served quite late if you are wanting to be off out (8.30am is the earliest). On the Saturday the continental breakfast was not fully set out until about 8.45am and cooked breakfast order was again slow to be taken and arrive, therefore we ended up leaving much later than we'd hoped. This would be fine if you're having a more leisurely stay - but just a word of warning for travellers who may want to be out early walking/biking etc.
Overall, We felt like this is a really lovely hotel just lacking in service, especially for the price.

I fail to understand Dale lodges position on tripadvisor. Having stayed a number of times eaten in the hotel and bar, i can honestly say this hotel was excellent. The service and foodwere second to none. I would highly recommend this hotel over many in Grasmere.

We had booked a weekend break at another hotel, but it was not what we thought it was going to be, we had the smallest room ever, and lumpy bed, with an even smallest bathroom, and dinner well not really for us, more an attempt to be Heston Blumenthal,
After having not the best of starts to our relaxing weekend break, we woke up Sat morning grumpy from the worst sleep ever in this Hotel or should I say B & B,
So we decided not to have our evening meal their and look for somewhere where we could go and get a proper evening meal, we asked around in a few of the coffee shops and one name always came up, Tweedies Bar so hubby and I went to check it out.
Upon arrival we noticed in what was a hotel in very nice grounds and found the bar at the back of the hotel, well what can we say it was packed and the atmosphere was great, we booked for dinner that evening and just managed to get a table. Thank you to the young lady sorry did not get her name but she was very helpful to us and very friendly.
Yes we agree some things are a little overpriced, I had the lamb £21 but it was lush, and hubby had the rump which was so tender £17, with the best chips he has ever had, we also booked in for the evening , Craig on reception went above and beyond for our needs having told of our disappointment in the other place where we had stayed, We were in room 4 a disabled room which did not bother us at all we were just so glad to be staying in a proper hotel, the room was fabulous with everything you could want for, overall we enjoyed this hotel very much so that we are thinking of staying again soon, All the staff that we came across were extremely friendly and warming and could not do enough for you, we also enjoyed the band which only added to our stay,
Well done to all the staff and keep up your hard work and we would recommend this hotel to all,

Room Tip: Up grade to a deluxe or mews room

We stayed at the Dale Lodge just for one night on a brief visit to the area. The Hotel is situated in the centre of Grasmere very well positioned for exploring the village on foot as well as the opportunity to go on various walks and explore the Lake all without having to use the car. The room we had was quite small with a large bathroom which was clean but in need of updating. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, well presented and cooked. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I would stay here again.

The Dale Lodge Hotel is a beautiful house set in the heart of Grasmere surrounded by the awe inspiring hills and mountains. The hotel itself is of a good clean standard and the staff are all more than willing to assist you in any way they can. The rooms are more than adequate (ours was a standard room) with all the facilities you would expect from a good hotel. Our room was spacious all though a little dark as the view was limited to another part of the building, the bathroom was clean and very spacious but again it was a tad dark as the mirror light did not appear to work which made shaving a little awkward but not impossible. The bed was comfortable but the pillows lacked any real support which appears to be a trend if you read other reviews luckily we took our own. Breakfast was good and plentiful, although the hotel had its own restaurant we never actually tried it as there are plenty of other places in Grasmere to dine in for example attached to the hotel is Tweedies bar which has a whole array of drinks and a sufficient restaurant. For finer dining we tried The Jumble Room a little way past Tweedies Bar.
Overall our stay was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to any one.

WELL DONE TO ALL THE STAFF.

If you get a chance to visit Grasmere it will definetly not disappoint.

We liked the attractive buildings and our nice, though not overlarge, room at the Dale Lodge. We were greeted politely rather than warmly at reception and we felt - this may have been us overinterpreting, not the hotel actually doing anything - not massively welcome in wet walking gear and muddy boots. It was almost as if we would have felt better in a smaller and more homely place ... and some proper space for drying clothes would have been very welcome. Breakfast service was not fast, but pleasant.

One big redeeming feature of our stay here was the very informal pub/bar Tweedies, which had lovely food and beer and great service. There is a more formal restaurant in the main hotel building but we avoided this - it looked pretty quiet. We were glad we'd booked for Tweedies as it was packed out.

On another walking visit to Grasmere I think we'd probably stay somewhere else, but eat at Tweedies again. If I were visiting Grasmere by car or wanting to impress someone I'd stay at the hotel but maybe try for a larger room.

Room Tip: Our room was nice and well-decorated but smaller than you'd think from the website. choose caref...
