Hotel highly recommended to me by two colleagues who stayed here previously, independently of one another. When I booked I made mention of this to hotel reservation, they showed no interest and never asked for names of my colleagues even though they are due back at hotel early December. Travelling alone, upon checking in I was shown to the smallest room imaginable, 19, (which was cold). Whilst decor was modern and tasteful there was not enough room for me and my case! Upon politely requesting a larger room I was allocated room 11 (cold again enough though radiator gauge reading 5). Alas 15 mins later having started to unpack again I was then advised that I couldn't have the room afterall as a returning couple had booked the room for the following evening. Therefore the only option was to take room 4, with disabled facilities or back to room 19. Upon review of room 4 (again freezing cold...you should be picking up a trend here),I decided to accept the room on the basis that I got an additional heater for the room. This was duly provided albeit taken from another room! I then spent the next two days having the most fantastic walks in the Grasmere area and enjoying first class meals two nights running in Tweedies bar so much so I will definitely return to Grasmere. However, as much as I really want to recommend this hotel, the manner in which I was treated I believe was less than acceptable in this day and age, particularly as it is obvious I am a financially independent, professional individual. As a well seasoned, premium traveller I was very much left to feel 'excluded' as I was travelling alone and was definitely left with impression that if I had been here as a couple (or a repeat guest, albeit as a couple) then I would have automatically been allocated a more premium room. (The hotel was definitely not full for the duration of my stay). In summary, I really, want to recommend staying here due to the superb location of the hotel, the high quality of food and such positive recommendations from my colleagues but can't due to my own personal experience, having to move room to room and the consistently cold/under radiated heating of the rooms which in late November is a key consideration factor.
