“Great Service Great Food”

Mews room was cosy and clean. Hotel staff very helpful and pleasant. I hate writing good reviews because you will be there when I want to visit at short notice but the food, beer and wine in Tweedies bar is always stunning.

Good position in the very centre of Grasmere. We stayed in a suite in the grounds which had access to a hot tub which was great fun. The suite was nice but could have been better with a fridge and a telephone. (The phone had been pulled out and not replaced.) Pleasant staff and very good breakfasts. Tweedies bar is good but the staff are a bit surly and food prices in Tweedies are very expensive. Restaurant prices we felt.

Just logged into Trip Advisor to write this review, to see that The Dale Lodge is ranked 10 out of 12 hotels in Grasmere - quite frankly I'm baffled. We've stayed at Dale Lodge several times over the last couple of years, and have never had anything other than good service. The staff are polite and attentive (with the possible exception of one gentleman who does seem a little grumpy!), and everything we've ever requested has been promptly and courteously delivered.

The hotel isn't a new building, so some may consider it dated - new builds like the Daffodil are certainly able to offer a more "shiny" contemporary feel, so if that's what you're after you may prefer to go there - but personally I like to feel I'm in a hotel with some character, rather than a conference centre, so I'll stick with the Dale Lodge.

Breakfast offers a good variety of continental and cooked-to-order hot dishes - all of good quality. It's served in the hotel restaurant which in the evenings offers a quiet and relaxed alternative to Tweedies bar for your evening meal. The menu's similar in each, but the differing environments give you a hugely different experience - both excellent in their own way.

Tweedies has rightfully won several awards for its variety and standard of real ales, many of which are local; all of which are well kept.

To sum up; this hotel is in my opinion a great blend of comfortable relaxing rooms, good food and an excellent pub, all set in fantastic grounds in the centre of one of the prettiest villages in England. Get yourself there!

Room Tip: Double aspect rooms on the lake side of building are light and spacious with good views (although no...

Great hotel, breakfast and evening meal couldn't be faulted. Lunch in the bar was great too - best chunky chips ever. We saw deer on a walk round the lake in the evening and the weather was lovely. What more could you want!

We stayed for a weekend and were given a bigger room than the one booked due to availability.
Lovely breakfast with a lot of choice if a tiny picky gripe I would have preferred a mixed fruit option as well. Evening meal was enjoyable in their relaxed restaurant. There is a bar which is very popular and live music was on the weekend we were there.
We would certainly stay again.

after walking out of another hotel, we stumbled on this beautiful hotel, and were greeted with a warm welcome. we booked a 3 night weekend break, bed breakfast and evening meal, we were given one of the mews which are in an annexe round the side of the main hotel, lovely little chalet style rooms with mezzanine bedrooms, the four mews shared a hot tub outside. the hotel has a pub attached which was warm and welcoming if a little over crowded (but you can't complain about a place being popular) breakfast was perfect every day. the evening meal we had twice in the formal restaurant and once in the pub (same stunning menu) i'd say we preferred the restaurant as the pub staff were very busy. but the food was always first class.
if we could find complaints/faults then they are (1) the door to mews n4 sticks and needs a kick at the bottom to get in and there is a slight bit of floor damage under the rug inside the front door. (2) the hot tub would be more inviting in this season if it had a gazebo or similar cover and maybe some form of screening as its quite visible to the hotel staff and rooms overlooking that side. (3) gutted to realise that the football cup final wasn't being shown in the pub.
over all a great weekend, in a lovely hotel, with pleasant staff.

Room Tip: the mews are lovely little annexe building round the side, lovely and secluded, but you may struggle...

We had stayed for one night just after New Year and returned for a week of walking (or so we had hoped) in late February. 99% staff excellent and friendly, room was very good if a little cold but a spare heater had been supplied. Breakfasts superb. We ate in Tweedies restaurant twice and had excellent meals but it was here that we found the only problem of the place. Unlike most places when you order wine, buying a bottle of many wines is dearer than buying 3 x 250ml glasses. In the bar for example a 250mm glass of a normal Pinot Grigio was £6.40, buying the bottle it was £19.95 Odd or what? this was not the only example on the wine list of this anomaly. When pointed out to a member of the bar staff he commented that several were dearer by the bottle and it was normal. Well not in my book so how about rectifying this and you may have got 100% of staff were excellent and also you may have got very good as I could not fault much else
