“Easy but good climb for kids!”
Review of Helm Crag

Helm Crag was "the mountain in the garden" during our stay in Grasmere and so we decided to take the children up it after our Sunday lunch. It is a relatively easy footpath although steep at times. It is clearly marked in the summer and all of my children (youngest five) made it to the top without a problem.

The view from the top is lovely, although there is a very steep drop the other side of the Lion rock. On the day we climbed the Red Arrows were performing over Windermere and we were treated to our very own private display!

A gentle walk out of Grasmere, generally towards Easdale Tarn, a right turn off the single track road takes you onto a well walked path up to Helm Cragg. It's a steady climb using a path that is currently being repaired and makes going easy in sensible shoes or walking boots. The views out towards Easdale Tarn are great and improve as you get above the height of the Tarn. From the top the views looking South over the village and lake are a picture.

Quite a steep climb but the views (on a good day) are spectacular! See the lion & the lamb & climb the Howitser if you're ok with heights. Take plenty of water, you'll need it

Steep little climb, but fantastic views. The Lion and Lamb rocks actually need some climbing skills!
