A simple little walk that lasts about 2 hours, that takes you from the twee village of Grasmere to one of the best peaks in the Lake District, and back again.

Rightly one Wainwrights favourites

“Size isn't everything!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

Not particularly big however you can see why it was one of Wainwrights favourites. Quite a steep ascent but you are rewarded for your efforts with great views from the summit. Allow a couple of hours to complete the walk. We had intended to do Fairfield Horseshoe but the snowy peaks meant we changed to Helm Crag - glad we have now done it. I can recommend the Travellers Rest Inn for refreshments before or after.

“Good Climb”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

Followed the easy way up from Grasmere village along easedale road past the hotel. Its a good climb but not too much too ask.
The Howitzer is a big rock at the top that even AW did not achieve. But we can all get too the top of the Lion & lamb. Just remember to wave to the camera from the top.Worth the effort

“Lion & Lamb with Howitzer too!”

Classic Wainright tops with all round views and the occasional military fly past...along the Keswick road below! Easy exit down to the road, or complete a curcuit around the ridge with views of Easdale Tarn to the right.

“Tough Walk”

Well worth the uphill battle. Not an easy walk but the views at the top are simply breathtaking.Don't forget your camera as the shots you can capture of the lake are amazing.
