Best hostel I have stayed, location was fantastic , all the facilities are in good condition . Kitchen was good and dining had a very good view . There is a co op store close to the hostel which is very handy. I had a pleasant stay and I like to go again

- Very clean and tidy and well organised
- Beds were comfy and the added luxury of having the bed made for you (not a usual touch!)
- Plenty of lounge areas, and free wifi for YHA members was a great bonus!
- Rooms were very warm, which I'm sure is a plus in winter (not great in summer though but windows open!)
- Breakfast was lovely, the chef does a cooked breakfast to a tea. Veggie option looked better than the standard breakfast though! The porridge was just right, and there was fresh fruit to go with it too!
- 2 minutes walk from town, and Helm Crag is just up the road and you are straight up onto the hillside! Plenty of walks to be had from here and would be a perfect stop on the Coast to Coast walk!
- there were plenty of families there with younger children and it seemed child friendly with the dining room having high chairs etc.

- The only downside was that the self catering kitchen was in a separate building down some steps - which is fine, until its hammering down with rain :(

Room Tip: The women's dorm was great for me! Even though it was above the TV room I couldn't hear anyt...

A first rate YHA, with particularly great food and the staff were ever so helpful.

It has a few more facilities than many YHA, including broadband and a widescreen TV.

And the setting isn't too bad either, adjacent to the town of Grasmere!

Stayed here iwth my 9 year old daughter during the Easter break. From start to finish I have never had a better YHA stay. All the staff were superb, the meals and breakfast were brilliant and great value for money - and the beds were even made up for us on arrival. Set in a stunning location, I will most certainly be back.

We got a deal for 25 pounds for the room and paid 5 pounds each for breakfast which was substantial before a hike. Staying somewhere so cheap enables you to eat out. You get a good packed lunch for a fiver. The room is very basic, however it's very clean everywhere with plenty of toilets and showers and the bunks are private and very comfy. The whole atmosphere of the hostel is peace and quiet and we're going again although it's going to cost 50 pounds this time. There's no where in Grasmere that cheap! Give it a go

Stayed for two nights while visiting family. Had a single room, which was spotlessly clean and had its own toilet with a several showers just down the corridor. Never had to queue for a shower and always had hot water! Full English breakfast was great value for money and I love playing with the toaster. Lounge was really nice. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Great place to stay to walk the central fells. Staff really friendly and welcoming. Rooms as you would expect in youth hostel bedding clean, room nice and warm, large drying room which was needed, nice lounge area. Used self catering which is away from the main building a bit of a run down the steps in the rain. Kitchen and dining area looked liked it had been kept clean by staff shame others staying couldn't treat it the same not cleaning up after themselves and using all of the limited amount of kitchen equipment with considering others might need it!
Only a short walk to set you on the right track for some good days out walking the central fells.

Room Tip: Room 2 picked up the free wi-if you get if you are member as located just above the lounge area.
