“Excellent stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

Had a lovely three night stay at this very pleasant & friendly place. Accommodation was comfortable & had everything you'd expect from a country B&B. Food in the restaurant was excellent, particularly the sticky toffee pudding! Great selection at breakfast, something for everyone with cereals, toast, continental & a selection of different cooked offerings. Only improvement could be a bit more thought to the veggie offerings in the restaurant.

My husband and I stayed for the weekend at this charming, homely property. From the second we arrived the staff could not do enough to help us and were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening and the food was beyond compare - delicious! The service was speedy and friendly too. Our room was just what we wanted, comfortable, 'olde-worlde', but with the bonus of a modern, clean en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was hot and hearty and the staff could not do enough to make sure we we were served with exactly what we wanted from the menu.
This is the first time I have ever written a review but I wanted to make sure that anybody looking for the perfect place to lay their head know about this outstanding Inn. Ten out of Ten

We stayed here for the second time after accidentally stumbling upon the Travellers a couple of years ago. It's still a wonderful place with friendly staff, good food and clean accomodation. My only gripe is that if you stay mid week (in March) all the other customers and residents are in bed by 9pm. We were the only ones still up drinking! Nonetheless, a lovely place, great views and we will be coming again. Thank You.

My second stay at the Travellers Rest. The place has a lot of charm, a roaring fire, long downstairs bar area and some quirky (yet comfortable) seats in the restaurant area. For me, the staff make the place: they are polite and unintrusive when they need to be, but attentive and friendly too. The structure is quite old and a bit characterful, but the staff keep it very clean and tidy. The food is terrific, and the service prompt, even at busy times. I'll be back.

My partner and I went to the Traveller's Rest for a meal on Valentine's night. The meal was excellent value. It was £25 each for a three course meal and a complimentary bottle of wine. The choice was great, the food delicious and the service and welcome first class.I would highly recommend it and would definately go back when returning to Grasmere on holiday.

Good location just on outskirts of Grasmere with lovely cosy bar and nice restaurant area.

Food was good, not gourmet but decent enough pub grub.

Room on first impressions was good but having expected to sleep in a tent that night anything with a proper bed was going to be a bonus. On closer inspection the room had some niggles - shower head broken, corner of bed broken ( both reported on departure ).

Could be a great place with a bit of TLC and maybe something a bit more rustic compared to the boutique fare in the centre of Grasmere.

Room Tip: If you get room no.1 ask if they've fixed the issues I mentioned in my review - if they have the...

My wife and I have regularly stayed at the Traveler's Rest over the years and on this occasion we stayed with two friends for three nights B&B. I have to say yet again we were not disappointed. The pub is an excellent location just a short 20 minute walk into the village. The staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable with on-suite facilities, although my wife found the shower a little hot for me it was not a problem and was not a problem for our friends. What I particularly like is the fact that the place is so dog friendly. We have a Cocker spaniel, the floors in the rooms are laminate so easy to keep clean. The dog was allowed in the main bar area in evening time and even allowed in the Breakfast room where breakfast is served. Although the direct walking route into Grasmere Village is only 20 minutes, directly across from the pub is a footpath leading to a quiet back road which is great for the dog. On this route the journey time is about 30 mins.

The food at the Travelers is excellent with a good variety of meals and special offers with large portions. No one should go hungry. On some days of the week it is possible to have a three course meal for around £15 pp. For those who like their beer this is a Jennings pub with all their brews being available, I particularly like the 'Sneck lifter'; a dark stout.

It is testament to the hospitality of the staff that we arrived by car on the Sunday and didn't get back in the car until we set off to drive home. We ate all our meals and drank all our our drink at the pub. Why go anywhere else when it's winter and you have a roaring fire to come back to after a days' walking. We will be returning hopefully soon.
