Just returned home from a 5 day break in the lake district and were lucky enough to have a beautiful week of sunshine. We visited Ash cottage on the first evening and kicked of our break with a fantastic tasty meal, food was very fresh and tasty, and the service second to none! My wife and I asked to see a bedroom for a stay in November and we where wowed by the views from the 2 rooms we where shown which were spotless and very nicely decorated/furnished which after seeing we will most definitely book once our holidays are confirmed. We ended up dining at Ash cottage 3 times during our stay and it was our favourite eatery in Grasmere.

Best BED & Veiw of all of Grasmere in room 10 on my 33 anniversary. Loved having hot coffee , fried eggs , bacon , juice every morning and then taking off on a hike , visiting " Wordsworth house " and getting Gingerbread at "Sarah Nelson's ginger bread shop " . This place is like a magical dream out of the movies for my husband and I . We recently saw the movie " the trip " with Steve Coogan & Rob Bydon .. It was also filmed in Grasemere . This is the most charming and friendly hotel .

Stayed for a week in Grasmere from 23/3/2013 not at this Hotel but self catering just around the corner at Beck Allens (would recommend) Eating out in Grasmere is much more expensive than say Ambleside & Bownes. We did not find a good old English pub in the village to eat at but ash cottage came the closest. The decor is a bit modern but the service is friendly and price wise the best value for money in Grasmere. If you are looking for entertainment then there is a singer on some nights.Worth a visit.

Only went in here for dinner so can't rate the hotel but the food was excellent and far better that the lamb inn over the road. I had shrimps on a toasted crumpet for a starter and was well presented and very tasty, for main courses I had a delicious wild boar cutlet which was exceptional, and my girlfriend went for the homemade steak pie which again was astounding and we do eat out a lot so for her to say this about it shows how good it is. Puddings were equally as good and a good selection of wines. When you first go in to the bar it is not your traditional country inn feel, it is modern so if you are looking for the country pub then you may pass this place by, which would be a real shame as you are missing a real treat for the quality of food and service

Popped in the restaurant to have some breaded chicken that we had before on another visit, but the menu had changed, i ordered the homemade steak and ale pie and was blown away by how good it was.

Tender meat that melted in the mouth and the pie was jam packed too, absolutely fantastic.

Well done chef!

We didn't stay in the hotel, just had a meal in the restaurant. It was the first place we walked into. We thought we'd have a drink to see what it was like inside first. You could eat in the main bar with bar meals but we noticed there was a more formal restaurant through some glass double doors at the back. We went through and we had a choice of where to sit. It was very quiet, there was one other couple that went in the same time as us, but it was near to end of season. The waitress was very sweet. The menu didn't have a huge choice but what there was sounded very nice and it wasn't the usual scampi and chips sort of menu. We both chose the Chefs specials, I had the caribbean chicken with rice and vegetables while my boyfriend had the Caribbean Pork with saute potatoes and vegetables and both in a caribbean jus. We had to wait a little while for our meals but probably because they were being freshly cooked which is a good sign. Both meals were delicious, chicken was really succulent and the vegetables were obviously freshly cooked. I had a lemon cheesecake for dessert which was more like a lemon torte but it was delicious. Coffee to finish. Nice background music and a nice atmosphere. We both had a lovely meal and a lovely evening. We would definitely go again.
