this hotel is lovely. we wanted somewhere to spend an anniversary break and found just what we needed at the harwood. the staff were so pleasant, hotel comforts spot on and the food!! well. breakfast was huge, but they were happy to reduce for me the next day. we hadnt been to grasmere for 40 years and found it just as lovely. definitely wont be as long before returning, and to the harwood. we will also tell others about it.

The Harwood hotel is a fantastic hotel. We had a wonderful room with great views and facilities (especially the TV at the end of the bath).
The breakfast is awesome and the staff were both very friendly and very helpful. This is one of the best weekends me and my girlfriend have had and we will definately be back soon.

what a wonderful way to spend our 29th wedding anniversary, we stayed in room 1 and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome, the room was lovely and homely with a super-king sized bed, the full english breakfast sets you up well for the day with nothing too much trouble, Keren and Andrea were our staff for the weekend and they were friendly and most accommodating we could not have asked for more, the whole experience was memorable and thoroughly enjoyable.

I had an attic room with ensuite and was warned about the sloping roof in advance. Both bed and bath were very comfortable. The hotel is small, very clean and warm. It is in the heart of the village and there is a good cafe/deli on the ground floor. The staff and owner were friendly and helpful and went to some trouble to accommodate my allergies at breakfast. Highly recommended.

The hotel has been beautifully decorated and presented with a lovely country cottage feel that is welcoming and homely yet stylish and very modern. My husband loved the splash t.v in the bathroom and I was very impressed with the very high level of cleanliness seen throughout the hotel.
Heidi and the team made us feel extremely welcome and nothing was to much trouble. We will definately be returning and will be telling all of our friends about it!

We stopped here for a long weekend having seen the website.
We stayed in room 3 which from the website looked luxurious and big with a fantastic bathroom. All I can say is that the photographs were cropped so you can't see what the room is actually like.
You can't see out of the room as all the windows are frosted - presumably so you can't see the dustbins and the fire escape
The bathroom smelled of damp and there was mould on the walls and flaking paint.
The room was so small that I banged my leg every time I squeezed between the dressing table and the bed
This isn't really a hotel at all - its a few rooms over a shop in the main road through Grasmere. Its only staffed when the shop is open by the shop assistants.
Its also very expensive for what it is. Next time I will stay at one of the many proper hotels with nice views of the lakes.
We complained to the owners but they did not bother to reply which is what prompted me to write this review.

It appears to have taken 4 months to write this negative review. If things were so bad, would it not have been better to discuss your comments with us and give us an opportunity to do something about them. We have no record of any such complaint and find the comments made totally unjustified.

All round very good B&B. Stayed in room 1 for 2 nights. Warm welcome from Keren. Enjoyed a bath while watching TV! Breakfast was fab (needed a cooked-through egg as pregnant and this was remembered automatically on day 2) although the 8.45 time was a little rigid (e.g. would be better if served between 8 am and 9 am). We really liked the fact that you took your shoes off before going upstairs as made it a home from home- pack some slippers!! Only suggestion would be to provide some bottled mineral water along with the tea and coffee in the room (I always suggest this so not a criticism of the Harwood in particular). Ate at the Villa Columbina and Tweedies. Tweedies quite expensive compared to what we're used to at home but well worth it.
