Just got back from a wonderful week staying at Roger Ground House with my family and good friends. I first stayed here 38 years ago, so to view it again through adult eyes was great. Hawkshead is a perfect village for a base to explore The Lakes and Roger Ground House is the place to stay, just a 10 minute amble to the village which has great pubs, gift shops, chemist and a Co-op. The house is full of history, has plenty of space to escape and everything you need for a great holiday. Roger Ground House is located up a lane and is so peaceful, perfect for relaxing and the beds are super comfortable for a good nights sleep. An amazing place to create memories for all the family, we will be back!
Very well equipped, warm, lovely scenery, nice fires etc. Stayed in the hideaway which was excellent, our friends were in the main house and that was ideal for dinners and chatting.
Just mind your head on all those low beams!
12 of us stayed here for the weekend (we also booked the Hideaway) and had a brilliant time. The location is great with a short walk to Hawkshead, via the footpath over the fields during the day, and via the road at night. The quality of the accommodation is excellent, it has been refurbished to a high standard but with sympathy to the original features. Hot water, heating and bathrooms all function perfectly, and there's plenty of crockery/cutlery to enable breakfast to be cooked, served and seated for 12 adults. All in all a great house and location - we will be back.
RGH is ideally located for walking access to Hawkshead and within easy reach of many popular Lakeland attractions. It has been very refurbished to a high standard to conserve it's Tudor beginnings and provide all modern facilities you would expect from a special property. The kitchen is very well equipped and easily coped with our party of 9. Our visit coincided with the "Beast from the East". On arrival the house was already warm and comfortable and remained this way during our stay. The 2 lounges were ideal as it allowed the younger members of our party to connect to the WiFi and do their own thing away from the grown ups.
It was so relaxing just to sink into comfortable settees and while away the time in front of a lovely warm log fire.
The gardens were full of snowdrops and crocus in bloom and it all looked beautiful in the sun. The house is just 10 minutes walk across field to Hawkshead and the views of the Fells behind Ambleside are magnificent.
At the end of the day a warm comfortable bed. We had a wonderful time
The property is spotlessly clean and has been refurbished to a very high standard in keeping with the quality fittings and period features. With its location and views it makes a wonderful base and it was great to look forward each day to returning to such good accommodation.
Great house with interesting history. Spacious stylish accommodation for a party of 12 and our four legged friends. Two lounges both with wood burners and plenty of bathrooms. Comfortable beds. We had a lovely few days that went by too quickly.
This was the perfect venue for a family birthday get-together. Situated just outside the pretty village of Hawkshead, it is ideal for country walks and pub lunches. The house is most comfortable and warm, with its wood-burning stoves and cosy sofas, and there are plenty of bathrooms for a large family.
