Sun Cottage Cafe really is a gem, the service is excellent, you get a warm welcome and very efficient. The food is out of this world, the menu has something for all tastes, sandwiches (I recommend the chicken and mango and the hot beef sandwich) to proper traditional fish and chips - in news paper which is beautifully presented. The show stopper is the cakes - they are huge- yummy chocolate, Victoria sponge, carrot cake, and fluffy scones. They do surf and turf or curry evenings in the summer, there are specials all year round, you really are spoilt for choice, then there are the home made chocolates which are superb!
The atmosphere is cosy and homely, very clean and relaxing, you can watch the world go by and the decoration is lovely.
What I like best are the people who run it: Tracy Paul and Scarlett work really hard to make the customer feel welcome and the food to such a high standard. People come from miles away to sample the cakes !!!
I would recommend a trip to Hawkshead to visit the Sun Cottage Cafe and sample genuine home cooked food and the now famous Hawkshead Confectionery chocolates, you wont want to leave!

This is a very small cafe and tea room with a big heart. The staff are very welcoming. It's a place with a real home from home feel, almost like walking into someone's parlour. The cakes in the window are so huge, colourful and unusual, they look like they are straight out of a children's fairy story. The pine tables and chairs, subdued lighting and decorating give a cosy feel. The sandwiches are presented in a most unusual way on a bread board. We had a chicken sandwich, the chicken was expertly cooked, soft and juicy. We also had the homemade soup, an enormous bowl with crusty, fresh brown bread. Everyone in the cafe said the same when the food was put down in front of them "Wow". Cake portions are very generous. Moist, light and completely delicious. If you're in Hawkshead, don't miss it.
