We stayed in Coach House Cottage over Christmas 09. From the moment of our arrival we thoroughly enjoyed this lovely, idyllic and comfortable cottage. Garry & Denise made us feel very welcome and were on hand throughout our stay to ensure a trouble free holiday. The cottage is set in a lovely quiet village with a good local pub about 2 minutes walk up the road. Hawkshead is half an hours walk down a quiet road and is well worth a visit, particularly as you can start many walks from there, including Tarn Hows which is approximately an hours stroll away. The only downside is that the Lake District is too full of other people!!

A super spot. Extremely comfortable, clean and well decorated bed and breakfast accomodation. Could not do enough to help us make our toddler comfortable. Good easy walks out the front door and a small quiet playground across the street make this ideal for young families. There is a pub for dinner a few minutes walk away. Sincere friendly hosts.

We stayed in the Coach House, one of the two cottages which shares the grounds with the Guest House.

The cottage itself was superb. It was scrupulousy clean and had everything we needed in terms of equipment etc. The rooms are bright and airy, well-furnished and decorated. The "cottagey" theme carries throughout with brass bed, lace linens etc. There is a repro log burner in the sitting room, leather sofa, furry throws - everything to make you feel comfortable. There are also many personal touches and a lot of thought and effort has gone into making the cottage so special.

The gardens are beautiful, and a lovely place to sit out in, glass of wine in hand, as the summer evening draws to a close.

The cottage is superbly located: Beatrix Potter's Hill Top is about 2 minutes walk away. So too the lake. There are beautiful walks all around and Near Sawrey is just that - near to many of the places one would choose to visit. Hawkshead is very nearby, and is an interesting little town to mooch around. It is also home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery. We found the cottage's proximity to so many National Trust properties a real asset. There are also many National Trust car parks around where we slipped into hiking boots and were straight away in the most beautiful countryside.

Denise and Garry, the owners, did everything to make us feel welcome. We were given a delicious home-made cake, suggestions about how to get to places/where to go, good local restaurants.

As this was my first visit to the Lake District, we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.

We have been coming to the lakes for over 20 years and have stayed in many hotels and believe me there are many that we checked out early of so to find the Beechmount is a delight

Denise and Garry - Welcomes you into their home and are fantastic hosts and nothing is to much trouble- Beer, Milk and water in the fridge (no extra charge), Denise booked us a table at the local pub/restaurant, and gave us advice on where to walk and we had a wonderful day out ...

The Rooms- Are immaculate and clean and have lovely comfy beds and the antique furniture is beautiful ..

The Breakfast - Is just wonderful , its hot and tasty and beautifully presented and locally produced

The Sitting Room - Is Beautifully decorated and again is immaculate - there are plenty of DVD to watch with an amazing log fire

The standard to us is like home from home with the addition of two amazing hosts that have become friends .... thanks to you both x

BOOKING

Denise was extremely helpful and friendly when she rang following my e-mail on the website. She did not know if the twin beds would fit side by side but helpfully moved one to see. She promised to position them side by side as preferred by my parents for our arrival. Denise also offered to book us a meal at the nearby Tower Bank Arms, which we gratefully accepted.

After several weeks, I had received no acknowledgement from Denise that she had received my cheque. I e-mailed her requesting an acknowledgement and leaflet on Beechmount as my parents would enjoy browsing the leaflet. I am still waiting.

ARRIVAL

Beechmount is easy to find as it has a sign and is next to the road. It was not easy to manoeuvre our large car through the narrow gateway into a small enclosed parking area and position it ready for exit, although we had a very skilful driver at the wheel. We therefore chose to park across the road in the playground car park and left our daily donation in the box provided. After crossing the road from this car park, there are steps from the road to the pretty garden and also to the front door.

Denise gave us all a warm welcome but we were so disappointed to hear that the Tower Bank Arms had a private function and could not accommodate us. We had not been informed of this nor offered an alternative (except trying the Tower Bank Arms for bar food, which we did but unsurprisingly, it was full) and had to find somewhere to eat ourselves. Had we known of this situation we would have made a booking elsewhere.

Unfortunately Denise had not moved the twin bed as promised and, although she offered to do so, Mum did not want to cause any work for Denise and so they were left in situ. This was disappointing for Mum and Dad but they did not want to make a fuss.

ACCOMMODATION

The Esthwaite Suite was perfect for our needs as it boasts a separate lounge, providing an excellent place for us all to have a chat over a brew. Sadly, and a first in our experience of an establishment of this calibre, no biscuits or chocolates were provided in either this Suite or the twin room. The views of Esthwaite Water and beyond from both the lounge and bedroom bay windows were both fabulous and addictive!

Both rooms were as you would expect for a 5 star B&B; the twin room is a very pretty room although not very large. The double bed was comfortable and the bathroom very clean but not very big. (The toiletries were hidden in the cupboard below the sink!)

The house is beautifully and tastefully furnished throughout and is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area including Hill Top (Beatrix Potter’s home nearby), Hawkshead, Esthwaite Water, Tarn Hows, Coniston etc.

BREAKFAST

Breakfast was ordered the previous day by ticking boxes on a sheet provided. Gary served our meal and we all enjoyed banter with him. He was very helpful and an excellent host.

There was not an overwhelming choice of food, which was a relief. Tinned grapefruit or cereals were followed by the cooked breakfast, which was nicely cooked and followed by toast and accompanied by tea or coffee.

Overall, a great place to stay but to book your evening meal yourself and remember the parking situation.

We stayed at Beechmount House for 2 nights for a bit of rest and relaxation and we were not dissappointed.

The house is stunning and the gardens are very peaceful - a great place to sit and read a book in the afternoon.

The lounge is comfortable, with a wide selection of DVDs and a roaring open fire (great for napping next to!).

The hospitality is really friendly and welcoming - we were offered a (very generous sized) glass of wine in the evening and were invited to help ourselves to cold beer as and when we wished, which was a really nice touch (and welcomed after a long day mountain biking!).

The pub just up the road (Tower Bank Arms) does great food and has a good atmosphere.

All in all, this is a great place to get away from it all but not too far away from attractions - Grizedale forest (Go Ape and mountain biking) is only 10 minutes away by car.

Highly recommended - its impossible to leave this place feeling stressed!
