“A real oasis of calm”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

This was my sixth stay at Yewfield and it continues to be a real haven of peace and beauty. The views from the Guest House are amazing, the breakfasts were nourishing and fresh and the room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed excellent meals at Zeffirelis and Fellinis.

We loved Yewfield so much when we stayed earlier in the year that we couldn't wait to come back. There is no doubt that Yewfield must be the most restful, relaxing and beautiful guest houses in the Lake District. All of the staff are wonderfully welcoming and the atmosphere is so calm. We took advantage of the 3 nights with 2 meals at the restaurants and cinemas owned by Yewfield in nearby Ambleside which allowed us to see 2 films on two nights followed by excellent 2 course vegetarians meals of the hightest quality. We stayed another 2 nights than originally planned as we were enjoying ourselves so much.
Stay at Yewfield, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong, they are all wonderful.

We found this hotel /guest house through talking to friends who had visited. it was well worth a visit and i would certainly go back. It was clean and spacious with big comfortable rooms. one of our rooms had a less than impressive tv but that didn't worry us too much. Lovely open fire with comfotrable seating around it and a very nice vegetarian cooked breakfast including lovely homemade smoothie.

If the owner was drifting around (was that him tending to the fire?) he didn't introduce himself or check us in or out! that would have been a nice extra!

Lovely walks near by and gorgeous grounds, we saw a deer and fawn from one window, early in the morning.

Overall highly recommended

The Yewfield is an impressive building set in some beautiful grounds. We upgraded to a suite that was fantastic - with a sitting area, fire, comfy bed, impressive stereo system and a lovely light bathroom with a sunken jacuzzi bath and great views over the surrounding countryside.

The vegetarian breakfast was lovely and the lounge area really welcoming. The DVD library was a nice touch too.

The other great thing about Yewfield is that the owners also own two veggie restaurants in Ambleside - we ate at both and were really impressed by both the food and the ambience, especially at Fellinis.

Highly recommended and we'll certainly be back!

We enjoyed a lovely, peaceful stay at Yewfield following hiking and kayaking in Coniston. A Yewfield breakfast and a walk round Tarn How was the perfect way to end our long weekend. We hope to return soon.

On arrival at Yewfield we were welcomed by the host Derek.Check-in was a little relaxed and and were not asked to sign the visitor's book, we were shown are room a short walk round to the side of the guesthouse. The room was very pleasantly decorated and all facilities in good working order.Their was a selection of the usual tea and coffee and a pack of biscuits each but disappointed not to find hot chocolate or decaffinated coffee. Their was a small bottle of water and two glasses provided also.
The bathroom was in a clean and fresh state fairly new by the look of it but, no window to open just a small 4" wall fan.The towels were a good quality and lovely and warm on the heated towel rail. A small colection of shampoo, soap and shower gel, fine for ourselves but a shower cap would be a welcome addition.
The bed was a zip and link and was reasonably comfortable making it a King-size.The pillows were poor quality and with no protectors fitted this made them smell musty.
As to breakfast i felt a little disappointed with it all.Although this is primarily a Vegetarian Guest House I feel that it would fair better just providing the Full British.
The DVD's and Music CD's are a lovely touch and a good selection for all taste's.
To sumarise then, go and try for yourselves for a weekend, you wont be disappointed.

Yewfield offers the vegetarian visitor the very best of the Lakes, when combined with a trip to either of its partner restaurants in Ambleside (Fellini's and Zefferelli's). They don't offer dinner so you do need to drive out for your evening meal. It is in a beautiful setting and the current 3 night offer is excellent value. Our room was lovely, with a window seat to take advantage of the fantasitc views. Excellent bathroom, though let down by a couple of things: biscuits only provided on day one, sink not cleaned every day and lessons in bed making needed! A real plus is the fact that you can enjoy (without feeling at all inhibited) the beautiful lounge with soafa and log fire. The real bonus is that they hold free classical concerts in the lounge throughout the season. We were lucky enough to hear world class musicians playing Chopin whilst the wind raged outside. Bliss.Great walks around Tarn Hows from the door and a relaxed atmosphere. Have now been 3 times and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the house for the best views
