We only stayed 1 night en-route to Scotland, so the smallish room wasn't a problem. Hillside, as the name suggests is up a steep hill, but only a stones throw from the town centre. Excellent breakfast, and very helpful hosts, especially when Richard called me to tell me I'd left my jacket behind. He held on to it until we passed by Kendal a fortnight later !. Only downside is the Town Hall clock, which seemed to chime every 15 minutes all through the night. So if you're a light sleeper, or like to have the window open, ask for a room at the back .

Stayed for two nights in a single room which, although small, was perfectly furnished and with an excellent en-suite, good TV and and excellent wifi internet connection. The hosts are very welcoming and hugely helpful (great sightseeing recommendations etc.). The breakfasts were excellent and the location, although a short walk up the hill from the town centre is very convenient and an easy walk (even towing luggage from the bus stop!). Definitely recommended and I look forward to staying again.

Room Tip: For even quieter rooms I would ask for the ones overlooking the back of the house.

Excellent bed and breakfast with genuinely welcoming hosts.
The room was sizeable, comfortable and clean with a good wireless connection. Only downside of the room was that the en-suite was very small (but that's to be expected).
The location is good - it's an easy walk from Hill side to the town centre (uphill on the way back).
Breakfast was very good.
I would definitely recommend to other travellers.

Breakfast - 9/10 (we were bribed with extra bacon!)
Friendliness of owners – 9/10
Access – 9/10 (own key for front door)
Parking – 3/10 (unless you can persuade the owners to let you park round the back of the house)
Access to Kendal - 5/10 (Hillside is as you might have guessed half way up a very steep hill!)
Value you for money – 9/10

Richard and Wendy are just great and our room was beyond criticism in all respects. The walks around Kendal are fabulous in the early morning even if it is just to admire the preserved history of the town. Good range of food and some Aussie wines in the supermarket just down the hill and the street to the right. Parking the car may cause issues but what is new about that anywhere in the UK? Richard will give a permit for the area and tell where best to park. We would have no hesitation in coming back and being spoilt here, Malcolm and Christine
