This pub, sited near the entrance to Sizergh Castle, has been consistently good over a number of years. The staff are welcoming and helpful, the beer selection varies and the excellent pub food is served in generous quantities. Always a good choice when we are in the area. This time the visit rewarded us after a good walk along local footpaths and through the Sizergh estate.

The meeting point for the bank holiday weekend, so we'd pre booked a table for 4 adults, three children. The place was nicely packed with folk.

Firstly credit must go for a beautifully kept range of bitters behind the bar and a nice wine list.

Food.... portions,,,outrageously generous, but seriously good.
Mine... game casserole with dates in red wine with crusty bread. Huge pot stuffed with various game meat and this fab sauce that you mopped up with the bread. Think Homer Simpson drooling
Wifey... Sunday roast chicken. She declared this the finest chicken dinner she had ever had, and. on prising a bit of the chicken off her, I could taste why she made that claim.
Darling eight year old daughter...smoked haddock risotto. creamy and simply delicious.
Desserts followed of Vanilla creme brulee with home made shortbread, ice cream, and a terrific sticky toffee pudding to die for.

Our friends also raved about their choices, which included a great goats cheese vegetarian dish. Given the amount of customers present, the service was really quick, with nothing being too much trouble. Perfect start to the weekend really.

Bill? £20 per head which included around of drinks at the table. Did I mention the bitter was fantastic? :)

This is a great country pub serving large portions of the most excellent food. The Chicken and Bacon Salad in particular is superb and a particular favourite of mine. Despite it not always being on the menu, the cheerful and helpful staff are always happy to make one. That's service!
The Strickland Arms is almost always busy- testament to its popularity locally. Wonderful food and drink, with a great relaxed atmosphere...

We're blessed with some great pubs near where we live but our current "fave" after a few visits for Sunday lunch is, without doubt, The Strickland Arms. It's very welcoming, great service - without being over-fussy - and the food is exceptional. Great roast dinners - so far, never disappointed. Quality and quantity you get is first class. It's sensibly priced and altogether just feels a great place to go and eat on a Sunday. It's really poular with walkers and vistors to near-by (ie 5 minutes' walking distance) Sizergh Castle. If Whacky Warehouse and other such "family" establishments are your thing stay away (please - stay right away!) but if you love a welcoming country pub with a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere and great food (which is why you go, right?) then this is the place. Fab for families - equally good for couples or solely adult visits. A real gem - keep up the great work!
