I just needed a bed for the night and the hotel sufficed.
TV didn't work - or perhaps I could not make it work because of the weird and complicated instructions, I just gave up.
No internet connection. Handy for the centre of town - try the Italian Restaurant "Paulo Gianni's.
Manager and breakfast staff friendly. The hotel is on the Coach Tour Circuit and was almost full. For £30 B& B I consider it a good stop off hotel for one night and preferable to the Travel Lodges/Premier Inns etc, but perhaps not for a longer visit.

it's noisy, dated, the manager and some staff treat customers as though they are the nuisance if they report anything wrong with what is provided...eg the TV's do'nt work, the heating cannot be regulated, windows are jammed open,.the noisefrom other rooms and the bar is horrendous , . you will be given your orders by the manager as soon as you arrive! Meals are chaotic and lacking in any nourishment. items oin the menu will be cancelled .....the staff seem stressed and inexperienced except two exceptional professional staff. all the cheeryness in the world is not deflected by calling everybody especially older women darling/my love etc
leisuretime travel co. uses this hotel so beware, their coach was something out of the ark, it was damp when setting off ,they had ovberbooked so that people were jammed into a substitute coach, seats with no leg room, could not recline the seats, could not turn air conditioning on, no seat belt on bACK SEAT,the driver gave hardly any information about stops etc, fiddled with his cd player a\nd drank from a water bottle while he was driving in a dangerous manner..........all in all an experience alright!!

This hotel seems to be a 'coach trip hotel', when I stayed everyone else was on a coach trip. Having said that it was nice to be staying somewhere other than a bland business orientated hotel, and the staff were v friendly and helpful.

Given this focus breakfast is at a set time (I think 8.30am) which may be difficult for business customers. There was a good choice at breakfast and it was table service rather than a buffet, serving staff were very friendly and chatting to guests.

I would recommend especially to independent leisure travellers.

just got back from a 3 day trip to the lakes, stayed at the County Hotel in Kendal.met by Simon the Manager, what a sense of humour that man had, nothing fazed him, not even the most difficult of customers. yes, this hotel is very old and in need of some cosmetic freshening up but over all it was more than acceptable. the beds were fine, the sheets were beautifully laundered and it didnt matter that the bedspreads were somewhat faded, they too wer fine. the bathroom was spotlessly clean and very spacious, lovely fluffy white towels and a first class shower. Simon and his staff worked their clogs off ,nothing was too much trouble for them, having worked in hotels myself i know only too well what their jobs entail. the food was pretty good , one hiccup on the first evening didnt put us off and the breakfasts were great with plenty of choice, it made a change to get toast that was freshly made and still hot. the entertainment on the second evening was brilliant, a pit more guests didnt watch him, the best singer ive heard in a long time !!!!!!!!!
my advice to those people who have given this hotel a bad revue is this, if you want five star then pay five star prices, this hotel was well worth what we paid .
a very enjoyable stay, i have nothing negative to say about the hotel at all

What a lovely warm welcome we received at The County Hotel last night. After a long drive from Ullapool we were greeted by a really friendly down to earth General Manager. We were given a really spacious room at the front of the hotel,it was beautifully warm, with everything you could need.Yes this is quite a dated hotel but there is a very pleasant atmosphere which makes it interesting. The breakfast was fine, not fancy at all but served by the very friendly ,considerate staff.I would stay here again because Ive never recieved such a great welcome anywhere.
