we'd been to the Shakespeare inn in the past for a drink and thought we'd try their accommodation. all rooms are named after characters from "a midsummers night dream.there was parking to the back of the pub which has to be accessed via a very very narrow entrance just wide enough for a car. the room we should have had had been given to someone else by mistake. we got up graded to the family room which had more space. the room and bathroom was clean but perhaps could do with a little updating as it did look tired in places. the bed was also a bit lumpy in places.all in all we were quite impressed.the room was what we had expected and more than satisfactory for are stay there. there was very little noise from the pub and the road and was central to all places of interest and restaurants. we would return to kendal and possibly stay here again as it is good value for money.

The accommodation is in rooms at the back of this drinking mans pub the rooms were clean, although it wont be long before they need a little tender loving care. The owner is helpful and was more than happy to serve us an early breakfast. When we visited they were not doing evening meals.

We stayed at the hotel to go and see Dreadzone in the Brewery arts centre Dec 10th. The hotel was just 100 yards away so the location was perfect. You will note I have clicked each section as excellent! this is based on the fact it was everything I expect in a hotel for the money. The owner was really nice, cooks a great breakfast and takes the time to talk to you and make you feel so welcome. Rooms are spacious enough and are located in the stables attached to the rear of the pub, alongside its private car park. If I could fault anything it would be the beer, we tried a few pints and decided the cider was a safer bet. That said, real ale is taken very seriously around Huddersfield so don't let that put you off what will be a very enjoyable stay. We will return soon for sure.
