Stayed at Castle Green so many times I've lost count. Sunday offers are a good deal, but this time it was mid week. Staff are lovely, so nice to see familiar, happy faces who like working where they do and every request I made was granted. Thank you to the management of this great hotel. Another lovely, relaxing break.

Hotel lovely & set in beautiful grounds/surroundings. Breakfast & evening meal 'spot on'. The only negative thing to say is that the communal walkways and corridors were a little dated & could do with a lick of paint/carpet replacing. Other than that had a great stay.

Many thanks for your review. We are very fortunate to have owners who continue to invest in improving the hotel. The challenge we have is prioritising where to spend this money as with such a vast building and grounds it doesn’t go very far!! Earlier this year we replaced the carpets in 50 bedrooms and I am pleased to say the corridors that you mention in your review are being refurbished later on this year.

I ate here last Friday with 3 friends and was really surprised at how busy it was. The food was good as were the portions. Very friendly service and a great atmosphere. Not the cheapest pub meal I've ever had but we will definately be going again.

Thank you for your review of Alexanders Pub. For those who don’t know Alexanders is set within the hotel grounds and gives a less formal dining option to the Greenhouse Restaurant. It is a good idea to book a table in advance as the pub is usually busy.

Rooms are clean and functional but the highlights here are the setting and the great restaurant. Didn't eat in the pub also on sight but that looked good too.

The food which the team produce here at the hotel is fantastic. I would challenge anybody to find another restaurant with 2 rosettes (awarded by the AA) charging £26 for 3 courses and coffee. Highly recommended

Stayed one night on our way further North. Although the hotel was busy, all the staff had time for every guest. Excellent customer service was evident from all members of staff we encountered. Excellent food and service in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable with good bathroom facilities. Recommended.

You must come and stay again, but for more than one night!

We are often used as stop off point for travelling north or south. Some guests use for both legs of their journey!! We are only a few miles off junction 37 of the M6 so why not give us a try?

I am happy with my stay at Castle Green and don’t believe I would have found anything much better in the Kendal area. Chose this hotel on location, access to the Lakes (within an hour of most places) and guaranteed parking. I did find the hotel expensive for what it is but it was still a lot cheaper than the 4* hotels that you will find in the heart of the National Park understandably. Although there is plenty of parking this usually gets taken up by the function hall and did on one occasion end up parking in the overflow car park which was basically a field. Thought as a paying guest we should be given priority over the function hall. The function hall seems to be the hub of the hotel and a big source of income I would imagine. It is a bit of an uphill trek from the car park unless you can find one of the few spaces near reception so be warned. All the staff are polite and friendly from reception to the bar to the breakfast staff and restaurant. I couldnt fault our breakfast on each morning of our stay, very good and efficient. There is free WiFi but I wouldn’t rely on it working for more than 5 minutes and would constantly lose the signal, but there is a free guest computer available if you can get on it. I did like our room and had a good nights sleep every night and found the beds very comfortable but it was a bit of a journey from the reception to get to it, navigating through corridors and stairways, not ideal if you have lots of luggage or are not very mobile but I did find it nice and quiet. There is a lift that goes to only one part of the hotel. Our room was good and the bathroom adequate as well but the shower would sometime lose pressure on occasions but not too much of a problem. The gym is good and the swimming pool is actually big enough to swim in which makes a change from some hotels. We used the Greenhouse restaurant which provides very good but expensive food, if your on a budget the onsite pub is also very good. Overall we were happy with our stay but felt it didn’t quite have that 4* feel about it.

Room Tip: If you want piece and quiet and dont mind walking a bit then ask for room 262. If you have lots of l...

Many thanks for your constructive review. It should however be noted that we are a 3* hotel. The team here at the Castle Green are committed to offering excellent hospitality service which we believe is up there with most 4 star hotels in the Lakes. I know you could say we are biased but this view is supported by the other reviews on this site from numerous guests who have stayed with us.
We hope that you will come and stay with us again
