“A good friendly hotel”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Stayed here with a large group, a choir. The staff coped well and were very friendly and helpful.

The accommodation was clean and standard hotel furnishings.

We ate at the pub in the grounds where the food was well prepared and plentiful

We really enjoyed looking after your choir group and the spontaneous song for the bride to be in the hotel lounge was a lovely touch on Saturday morning! We would be delighted to welcome you back to the hotel again next year.

We have stayed at this Hotel before and if anything ,it was even better than last time. I'm not sure if it has been refurbished, but it seemed much fresher somehow than we remembered it.
We were attending a Convention as last time, and were very impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the reception staff. Our room, ( twin bedded ), was delightful, with beautiful over the gardens to Kendal and the hills beyond, tea, coffee and biscuits on the tray, lots of information about places to see, and an excellent en suite, with one of the most powerful showers I've ever experienced, ( lovely ). The beds were comfortable , the pillows may have had more choice of softness, but no complaints whatever about the cleanliness. We received an early morning call and our newspapers each morning as requested, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
Our breakfasts were superb, with plenty of choice, and with only one exception, the staff were invariably friendly and efficient. I will not point the finger here, but I did overhear similar comments.
The food overall was excellent, the whole experience likewise, the drinks were expensive, but as expected in a hotel of this calibre.
All in all a lovely stay which I would happily recommend.

Room Tip: We had a lovely twin bedded room, at the end of the corridor, up a short flight of stairs. The room...

Thank you for sharing your experience. We have invested heavily in the hotel since your last visit in 2011 and it is therefore fantastic to see that this is apparent! It was a pleasure to look after your group over the weekend and we hope to see you again soon.

Stayed here for 2 nights - valentines weekend. The hotel itself is situated just outside of the town centre and has the most amazing views. We were booked into a room in the newer side of the hotel, quite a long walk and had the back view of some woods. My partner spoke to the receptions and upgraded to another room with a balcony.....gorgeous views and happier me!!!! We didn't bring our swimwear or gym gear so cannot comment on the facilities there. Anyway, booked in for a 5 course meal on the saturday.....food was out of this world. Gorgeous, I'm a veggie and had no problems with the selection on offer. Went into the bar for drinks and had a few but cant understand how bar staff cannot (or maybe will not) make a coctail up for you, other than a baileys, tiamaria and cream!!!!!!!! concotion...not for me. we had room service twice, both good food and good wine. The breakfast was delicious and a great choice on offer ( I MUST STATE THAT THE CHEF DESERVES HIS OWN 5 STAR FOR THE FOOD) Staff at the hotel were really good and responded to any need you had asap. The short trip into town was well worth it too, lovely shops, cafes, restaurants etc and lovely walks in the countryside. All in all, lovely room, good staff, wonderful location and we will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Try a balcony room...beautiful views

Thank you for sharing your Valentines experience.

The Greenhouse Restaurant does have its own Trip Advisor review page and the kitchen team are always pleased to have nice things written about the food they produce. A 5* review would be very much appreciated I am sure!!

Breaking our journey after work in Edinburgh we decided to try Kendal which we knew 30 years ago as a lovely country town. It seems to have been wrecked by its traffic scheme. Nonetheless we decided to try the Castle Green Hotel.
Friendly welcome, great Sunday night deal for dinner b & b, good room and unexpectedly high quality dinner cooked with skill and flair.
Thoroughly recommended.

We do have many guests who stay with us to break up the journey when heading north or south. We are ideally located just a few miles from junction 37 of the M6. If you leave the motorway at this junction you do not need to navigate the one way system in the middle of Kendal. We are in an elevated position (on the right) as you drop down the hill into the town.

Our ‘Sunday Spice’ rate is very popular as it includes a dinner allowance of £56, bed and breakfast for two for only £120, highly recommended!

We hope that you will not leave it another 30 years before returning!

This hotel is great for the price, although a bit further from the centre of Kendal than others (it took about half an hour to walk). The room was OK but nothing special (fairly small compared to other 4 star hotels but was clean and had all the basics). I had a quick evening meal in the bar which was reasonably priced and cooked to order although the bar menu was not great. The breakfast service was outstanding, and the restaurant has nice views over towards Kendal. They cook some breakfast things to order and bring it to your table like poached eggs, fresh coffee and toast. There was a good continental selection with fresh fruit and pastries. The leisure centre was within the hotel on the ground floor and had fairly long opening hours. The pool was larger than a usual hotel pool. The gym looked OK but fairly busy so I didn't use it.

Many thanks for your review.

We do have some smaller rooms in the hotel but the advantage of these rooms is that they do have fantastic views across Kendal and the Lakeland fells. We would always suggest booking directly with us at the hotel so our Reception team can discuss room preferences such as the size or view. We have Alexanders Pub located in the hotel grounds which serves a fantastic range of typical bar meals alongside some seasonal specials, booking is recommended as it can be very popular with residents and locals.

BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green Hotel , is how they answer the phone, every time, and as I was organising a function and had to phone quite a few times, I did groan when I heard "BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green Hotel" but hey thats what it is :-)
The event a dinner and AGM for my club went off superbly, the team really know what they are doing and my advise is utilise them, if you have a problem tell them as they will have a solution.
What made the event for me is the people, dispite the corporate phone answering the every single member of staff is warm and friendly and courteous and helpful. Adam the bar manager and christine the banquet manger were particularly good on the night, and the serving staff were just so sweet (I have children the age of most of the waiting staff so i get soppy)
My room was standard international fare, could have been in london,Birmingham or Kendal except for the lovely view, great bed and fantastic shower.
The food at the function was superb though as organiser I did not really get to enjoy it as I was running around, however the Breakfast, totally superb just a mega pig out, everything was good but in particular look out for the homemade jams just by the toaster, try them.
So really a highly professional front with a warm heart of Cumbrian staff.

Started off well with a really friendly and helpful receptionist. The room was not massive but really clean and well appointed. The bathroom looked like it had just been refitted and was immaculate. Room service arrived very quickly and was delicious, although the apple tarte tatin was slightly expensive for the portion size. Really comfy night's sleep and overall stay, would definitely recommend. Can see why it's in the top ten Best Westerns in the UK. Good work!

Thank you for sharing your Castle Green experience.

All 99 of our bathrooms have been refurbished in the last couple of years. They are now very modern with granite and shiny chrome fittings!

We are very proud of our position in the Best Western league table and you can contribute to this by leaving a review at bwfeedback.com
