“Excellent, hidden gem for a family or small group”
Reviewed 21 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Just returned from our second stay at Barnhaven. Its a lovely (big) cottage that can easy sleep a family or small group of friends. There is some easy walking out of the door, whilst Ambleside is around 30mins away. The village is quiet, with a very good pub around five minutes walk away.

Very dark skys at night, log fire and big kitchen. What more could you want from a country cottage?

“Excellent, would do it again.”
Reviewed 20 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Comfortable, large and well-furnished, well-equpped. Gorgeous location.
A car is essential, of course, since the village has a good pub but no shops.
Well-situated for the south Lakes.
A minor confusion at the start was quickly and efficiently dealt with by the owners. Much appreciated.

“Beautiful cottage for a family holiday”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in July 2015

What a fantastic cottage! Barnhaven provided us with the perfect base for exploring the south-eastern Lakes. The cottage itself is just outside the national park, but is still in a quiet rural location. The accommodation was just right for us (a family of 5 with teenagers), but note that, although it sleeps 6, two of the beds are doubles.

Barnhaven has a homely feel to it. It is tastefully decorated and the lounge is a comfortable place to relax and has a wide ranging collection of DVDs and books that visitors can use. There is a good size garden, which unfortunately we did not use as much as we would have liked due to the weather.

There are plenty of good walks that can be done from the cottage and many, many more a short drive away in the Lakes.

The local pub - The Wheatsheaf Inn - serves decent food, as does the Hare & Hounds nearby in Levens.

The owners were very responsive to the one minor issue we had during our stay and communicated well throughout the booking process.

It is worth noting that Tesco will deliver groceries to Barnhaven.

Pros:
- Quiet location
- Well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier
- Good collection of DVDs to suit most tastes
- Free WiFi
- Inclusive electricity, hot water & heating
- Easy access to most areas in the south eastern lakes and also to / from the M6 for destinations further afield
- Spacious
- MASSIVE bed in the master bedroom

Cons:
- The skylights in the master bedroom have no blinds, so the room becomes quite bright in the morning (however, it also means you can lie in bed and look at the stars!)
- Although the important parts of the house (i.e. kitchen and bathrooms) were thoroughly cleaned, the rest of the house could have done with a better clean before we arrived.
- The garden is heavily shaded by trees for much of the day.

“Brilliant house, lovely location and great sized garden!”
Reviewed 21 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed here in August 2015 and we had a great time, the house is well equipped and absolutely beautiful, perfect for friends and families!
Barnhaven is located right near a farm so the fields next to the garden are filled with horses and sheep and for a city dweller this is lovely! Very peaceful.
The Whitsheaf Pub just around the corner is perfect as the food is delicious (esp the braised beef!) the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing.
The house is also only a half hour drive from many attractions in the lake district including Lake Windemere, Morecambe Bay and Ingleton Waterfalls, all great days out set amongst beautiful scenery.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to our next visit!
