A beautiful house in a beautiful spot with lovely hosts. David and Shirley gave us a very warm welcome to their home, which is full of character and ideally located in this spectacular countryside. With comfy beds, a great breakfast and a genuinely interesting past, Wainwright House is the perfect base to explore Lakeland. Highly recommended.

Wainwright House was everything I could have wanted from a B&B on my stay in Kendal. It is situated in a quiet area, just north of Kendal but within 10 minutes walk of the town, no traffic noise, just the sound of the dawn chorus to wake me up. My comfortable room faced the fells and was nicely furnished and with central heating, TV, coffee and tea making facilities, a bathroom with effective shower and plenty of hot water, it was a welcome refuge after a long day. There was an excellent choice of breakfast which was freshly prepared and served in the bright breakfast room, the adjacent lounge was a cosy place to read the collection of Wainwright information or pour over the maps or just watch TV, the whole house is lovely and clean throughout.
It is a beautiful old house, once abandoned, now sympathetically restored and furnished, the owners David and Shirley were friendly and helpful in every respect, with private parking it is a real gem of a B&B in such a busy Lakeland town.

Fabulous situation, with easy access to Kendal and the fell behind. This B&B is a real 'home from home', with great breakfasts and a wide variety of options to satisfy my 2 hungry boys. The owners Shirley and David were fantastic at being attentive but unintrusive, and kindly let my son use the shower after his fell race, he was extremely muddy!

Good clean B & B accommodation nothing too much trouble. Interesting connection with Alfred Wainwright. David and Shirley are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Excellent cooked breakfasts. Ideal for anyone wishing to stay in Wainwright country. Nice and quiet and plenty of parking space. Very good value.
We will be back again.

Wainwright House is a lovely building steeped in Wainwright historical associations with spacious gardens and trees all around. It is peaceful and yet within walking distance of Kendal town centre, about 10 minutes away. You can walk from the house up into the hills behind. The owners are just lovely, so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.

It has become our favourite place to stay in the Lake District. We will certainly be returning and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: We have stayed in different rooms and were happy in all of them. Upstairs might be a problem for tho...

A small yet clean B&B located just 10 minutes walk outside of town. The service were friendly and helpful, the owners sure has sense of humour :))). I really enjoyed my stay in Wainwright and would love to come back next year :).

There is a pathway just around the gate entrance, which lead to the top of the hills behind the hotel. Unfortunately I only found out in the last 20 mins, but I believe it's would worth a trip :). The public transportation is not really good, so ideally you need a car; but otherwise you can just walk around as the town is not that big anyway :).
