Emma's is another place I visit fairly frequently in Kendal - I can't review my very favourite place because I am a volunteer and trustee there! In winter time there's an open fire and in good weather there's some outside seating. Light snacks, coffee, tea cakes with jam and butter, interesting old building, friendly service and home made cake.Lots of regular clientele.

We recently visited kendal for the day,it was wednesday market day,as usual the town was bustling,we decided to go for a snack and saw the sign for EMMAS in the street, the cafe was just situated through a short entry into a cafe,or as we did,sit out in the courtyard as it was a glorious day,it is a popular little cafe, and we know why,the service was excellent from a young lady who had a beautiful smile, and personality,we only had coffee and cake which i think was home made,it was excellent, try emmas out the next time you visit kendal, you will not be disappointed.

Yard 46 is a super cafe, located in a very old building, that typifies Kendal's tag, as the Auld Grey Town and found within one of Kendal's many yards and ginnels. Hopefully, that suggests the town is well worth a visit, which it most certainly is! Yard 46 will certainly enhance the visit of anyone wanting a high quality cafe that serves great food and drinks, including wine. It also has a quiet, but very popular outside area, located well away from the nearby busy market square.
There are only 4 tables downstairs, so if stairs are an issue, plan to get there by about mid-day, as Yard 46 is popular with locals, having lunch breaks from work and, of course, locals visiting to shop etc. There is a toilet, just outside the cafe and the area just outside the entrance, is ideal for leaving prams etc, as there is not loads of room inside.
The only very minor issue, is that the door often gets left open by other customers....fine in the summer but less so in winter!

You really need to keep your eyes out for this one as its hidden down a little alley in the centre of Kendal. We stumbled upon it by accident looking for somewhere to go for lunch. It is a gorgeous little place with lots of nice food options and pleasant service. The food was tasty and I can imagine sitting outside on a warm day would be Lovely. Highly recommended.
