Lovely hotel just a few miles from the M6, we stopped on our way up to Scotland.

The service was excellent, the friendly staff couldn't do enough - we had a bar snack while the England match was on, they bought us a table into the tv room, fetched us drinks - what more could you ask for.

The bed was amazing, my husband is 6' 4" and even in our bed his feet are over the end... Not in the hotel room! It was spotlessly clean.

I would have given 5 star but for two minor things - we were in room 206 and there was an extractor or boiler or something humming all through the night and it was irritating, secondly there were some tiles missing from the bathroom floor which made the room look a bit shabby.

But.... I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stop there again like a shot!

Your opinion of this hotel probably depends on how much you paid. I stayed there for three nights, in a twin room with my mum, for the princely sum of £210. So, for that price, we were very happy with it. I booked it two weeks before departure using Superbreak. The directions on the website were very good and got us there no problem. The car park is vast and parking was straightforward. I was shocked when checking in to see that the standard price for 1 night B&B was over £100, having only paid £105 each for a 3 night stay. I don't think that it was worth anything near that £100 per night, but equally, we know that we got a fantastic bargain. The room wasn't massive, but it was big enough for both of us to be able to move comfortably around our beds - this is not something that you always get with a twin room so we were pleasantly surprised. There was a window, but it didn't open very wide, and a radiator and we had control of both. As it happens we were here during a mini heatwave so we spent a lot of time in the pool and the hot tub that was part of the hotel. For us, this was probably one of it's best and underrated features. Very rarely did we have to share the pool or hot tub with anybody else and the setting sun warmed us up through the glass until well into the evening. Our ensuite was a bit dated, but very clean and had the usual shampoo, soap etc available which was handy. Towels were big and fluffy. Breakfast was lovely and you could have as much as you liked. There was several fruit juices to choose from, fruit, yoghurt and cereal. The hot buffet was well stocked and so we left breakfast every morning feeling pretty stuffed. The hotel is really well located to have a look around the Lake District but once you've tried the local pub once, all of your other evening meals will probably involve a drive into town, so if that's an issue you should look for a more central location. We were disappointed to find that many of the Lake District attractions do not open until 1st April and don't account for school holidays or fantastic weather - that date is fixed and firm - which is a shame as it means that the Lake District is by and large a summer destination only. Reception were very helpful in directing us to a few places and helping us deal with the roadworks/diversions that were in place close to the hotel. There were lots of leaflets in reception to help us decide where to visit etc. I think this is a good hotel, I can see why it's not a 4*, as it needs freshening up a little bit, but it's an excellent 3* and if you can get a bargain I don't think you will be disappointed.

Joined friends here and enjoyed a fabulous weekend.
Couldn't fault the service, it's a shame it's gonna be a while before we can all meet up again.

Got a late deal and we were very imprseed with the service. The staff were very helpfull, polite and the food was to die for. Would highly recomend the food! (there was a wedding on for over 100 guests and there was no delay or dip in service or quality of the food hats off to the chefs. ***) The only thing that let it down was the bed was very uncomfortable i didnt get enough sleep. which is a shame as i so wanted this to be excellent. would definatly stay again but just ask for a different room. (104) The pool and spa were just what was needed for a night away to relax. Thank you all for a great break. very happy.

Room Tip: Ask for any other room than 104 unless it has a new bed.
