Me and my partner just stayed at the riverside hotel, on arrival we checked in and went up to our room, we had booked the Kendal castle suite and on arrival we were absolutely mind blown. We walked into this gorgeous suite with a queen size bed, living room area and a en suite bathroom. We couldnt have been more impressed with our room, I was excited it was so beautiful, furnished very well and a good size tea tray. After a very long journey there we wanted to go to the bar and get some dinner. We had payed for the dinner, bed and breakfast rate in a 2 for 1 offer, it was certainly great value for money! The bar had a great selection of drinks and it was a cosy atmosphere. We then went for dinner now the service was impeccable, our waitress being Helen Clark who I later found out is general manager! I also work in a 2 rosette restaurant and is rarely blown away with service anywhere else but this was exceptional. Absolutely 5* service as she couldn't do enough for us and it was nice to see someone passionate about her job like I am! However normally food always beats service unfortunately in this hotel service was far better. The food wasnt bad and both nights we enjoyed our starter and our desserts however the mains did not live up to expectations, we both had confit of duck leg and it couldn't be classed as that as it was quite tough which really it should have fallen on the bone being cooked for so long. It was like it had been roasted. On the second night I had a steak which was good not excellent but okay. However my boyfriend had topside of beef. The veg was hard as in raw. The green beans were barely cooked and the broccoli was also really tough. The beef was also tough and the potatoes were not much better. ( but maybe the chefs were having a bad night as they did have a big function on) it didn't ruin our stay at all but was a downside. Breakfast had a large variety of cereals and fruits and we really enjoyed it although sometimes it could do with being topped up before it goes empty as spent a lot of time waiting for thing to cook before giving up. Everything else was perfect as was surprised when I found out they had ghd straighteners in there changing rooms for the swimming pool. I'd like to say Thankyou to all the staff including Helen Clark and the young dark haired girl we also had waiting on us as she was so friendly and again very good at her job. I could not praise the service up enough, just would love this hotel to match up there food to there service. Overall I would hundred percent stay here again and if you go there book a suite is is surely worth it's money.
