“Mind blowing :)”
Reviewed 20 January 2013

Me and my partner just stayed at the riverside hotel, on arrival we checked in and went up to our room, we had booked the Kendal castle suite and on arrival we were absolutely mind blown. We walked into this gorgeous suite with a queen size bed, living room area and a en suite bathroom. We couldnt have been more impressed with our room, I was excited it was so beautiful, furnished very well and a good size tea tray. After a very long journey there we wanted to go to the bar and get some dinner. We had payed for the dinner, bed and breakfast rate in a 2 for 1 offer, it was certainly great value for money! The bar had a great selection of drinks and it was a cosy atmosphere. We then went for dinner now the service was impeccable, our waitress being Helen Clark who I later found out is general manager! I also work in a 2 rosette restaurant and is rarely blown away with service anywhere else but this was exceptional. Absolutely 5* service as she couldn't do enough for us and it was nice to see someone passionate about her job like I am! However normally food always beats service unfortunately in this hotel service was far better. The food wasnt bad and both nights we enjoyed our starter and our desserts however the mains did not live up to expectations, we both had confit of duck leg and it couldn't be classed as that as it was quite tough which really it should have fallen on the bone being cooked for so long. It was like it had been roasted. On the second night I had a steak which was good not excellent but okay. However my boyfriend had topside of beef. The veg was hard as in raw. The green beans were barely cooked and the broccoli was also really tough. The beef was also tough and the potatoes were not much better. ( but maybe the chefs were having a bad night as they did have a big function on) it didn't ruin our stay at all but was a downside. Breakfast had a large variety of cereals and fruits and we really enjoyed it although sometimes it could do with being topped up before it goes empty as spent a lot of time waiting for thing to cook before giving up. Everything else was perfect as was surprised when I found out they had ghd straighteners in there changing rooms for the swimming pool. I'd like to say Thankyou to all the staff including Helen Clark and the young dark haired girl we also had waiting on us as she was so friendly and again very good at her job. I could not praise the service up enough, just would love this hotel to match up there food to there service. Overall I would hundred percent stay here again and if you go there book a suite is is surely worth it's money.

Room Tip: Book the Kendal castle suite it was beautiful

What a headline! I'm so happy we were able to blow your mind with our accommodation and service. We are very lucky to have staff that consistently offer 5 star service and I am very pleased they were able to make your stay and enjoyable one. The Kendal Castle Suite is, surely, a home away from home offering spacious and comfortable accommodation with excellent views as well. I do apologise if your dining experience did not live up to the standards set by the rest of the hotel. Usually we get such amazing comments about the food; how expertly cooked and presented it is and, of course, how delicious it is! We set high standards for ourselves, which we usually meet, and I am sure the next time you visit we will be back on form! Thanks again for your review and your recent stay, it was a pleasure hosting you.

Just arrived home from a two night stay at the riverside hotel. Hotel could probably do with a bit of an update in some areas but on the whole has a really nice feel to it. Staff very friendly and really helpful. We took our dogs and were made to feel very welcome. Although dogs not allowed in the restaurant they were allowed in the bar area which was very comfy and pleasant. Our room was lovely and warm with a lovely view over the River Kent. Breakfast was also very good and served in the restaurant also overlooking the river. A really enjoyable stay and will defiantly be back with or without dogs!!

Thanks for visiting us and for bringing your dogs as well. We do love dogs here and they seem to love coming to stay with us as well. Thanks for your kind words about our staff and food as well. The breakfasts do a wonderful job of starting one's day off right especially if they are hitting the fells or otherwise going for a nice, long walk! See you again soon we hope.

We have stayed at the Riverside previously, so a repeat visit says something positive about the venue! The room was warm and comfortable and without exception, we found the staff polite and very welcoming. On a quiet January evening, we did find the ambient temperature in the restaurant a little on the cool side, but otherwise, the plates and food were hot.

The breakfast buffet service is good, but when staying for several nights it would be nice to have an alternative hot plate choice to the 'traditional english'. Kippers or smoked haddock comes to mind. Overall, we enjoy staying at the Riverside and will continue to stop here when we visit this part of the Lakes.

Stayed for five nights with friends over Twixmas & New Year. Wife & I stayed in the Kendal Castle Suite, which we found to be excellent. All meals taken at the hotel were found to be excellent, especially on New Years Eve.
ALL staff were found to be friendly & courteous. Full Marks!! A special word for Helen, the Manager, who must have worked many hours over the period, ensuring that guests were happy & everything ran smoothly.
The leisure centre had an excellent gymnasium, sauna etc. Shame the steam room was not operational.
Shall stay again with no hesitation.

What an excellent 5-star review! Thanks so much for your 5-night stay, everything is pleased you enjoyed yourselves. It is a busy time for us, but fun as well, as all of the guests are in a festive mood. Also, the reception manager says she enjoyed her birthday drink thanks to your generosity. We will certainly look forward to welcoming you back!

Nice Hotel - Well appointed, good sized room - Nice and warm - Good fruit/cereals selection, English Breakfast good although no croissant/pastry and a very nice view if the river from the breakfast/restaurant.
Ideal for a Kendal centred break. All staff were naturally polite and courteous - happy! - very welcoming, yet professional. Good garage car parking - Looked like a nice leisure club too.
