“Kendal short break”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Lovely hotel in great location, close to Windermere. Lovely views over the river. Room was spacious, clean and well equipped. Good food if a little pricey in the restaurant. Nice Spa and gym but pool is a little small and had children's swimming lessons (1 child not a group) , looks like they had a fire in ladies changing room which was under repair. However overall a really nice place to stay with friendly staff.

Thank you for your kind review, we really appreciate you taking the time to recommend us to fellow trip advisors. I am pleased to tell you that the ladies changing area in the gym has now been fixed and looking great again. I hope that you will choose to stay with us again on your next visit to the lakes.

Kendal is a good staging point for exploring Lake District ( was what we initially felt ). Better option is to stay at Winderemere OR if you are looking for awesome views of the lakes then best is to stay at the Cottages on the lake. 20 Miles from Kendal into the Wastwater is where you should head to and stay. Keswick town is also excellent should you want to be closer to the fab drives and also need some sort of habitation. I would go straight to the lakes and stay in a self catering cottage next time.

Room Tip: Choose corner rooms overlooking the river but don't expect river views from the rooms as windows...

We appreciate your review of Kendal and its location relative to various points of interest in the Lakes. Many will find it helpful and we agree, it does depend on what someone is looking for. We are in a bustling market town, but not so far that you cannot take advantage of everything the Lake District has to offer. Thanks again.

Stayed here recently with family. Room on ground floor, couldn't see the lake for condensation covering Windows, paint peeling, stains all over walls a completely soulless room. We were put next door to 3 young lads on a boozy weekend with a connecting door to their room & u cud here everything not great at 2am with a little one. Spa dated and tiny! Breakfast was average. In a nutshell stay somewhere else if u can - its not the worst but it's not the best. It was not worth £140 that we paid! Won't be back.

We would have to disagree with this review's title. We are a fantastic place to visit at the foot of the Lake District. If staff had been made aware, we would have gladly sorted out any problems raised. Unfortunately, no mention was made of any of these issues. If the neighbours were noisy, we could have found another room, no problem. We are just about finished a complete repaint of the hotel's interior; unfortunately this room is next on the list and wasn't done before these guests stayed. We aren't sure what "dated" means for a spa, but for a hotel of our size in a small market town it is actually perfect. We are sorry we weren't the hotel for these guests, but wish we would have been made aware whilst they were staying.

We had cake and tea but no cake so had scones which were that dry they crumbled so we left them. Disappointing. The enterance off the street was very shabby but the enterance to the bar was a lot better. Food was excellent and a very good choice can not fault the bar and restaurant. The staff were very helpful and a massive bonus was the off road parking. Good supply of in room drinks which we appreciated. Nice big bathroom. If we were in Kendal we would stay again, appreciate the window cleaning problems and guttering clearing would not be easy, but would suggest they look at the woodwork and choose another painter and decorator.

Thanks for your review and 4-star rating. All of the staff appreciate your mention of them and we're pleased you enjoyed the food and location. We are sorry the scones were a bit dry for you. They are a new feature of our bar menu, so we appreciate your feedback. The river side of the hotel is scheduled to be refreshed shortly. We hope if you visit again you'll appreciate the changes. Thank you.

I stayed at this hotel at the weekend after visiting friends for a celebration event, the hotel is right in the centre of the town which was good. The hotel itself was clean but a little dated, facilities were basic but for what I paid it was worth the money. The staff were lovely very helpful and friendly, the breakfast and dinner I had was nice enough nothing special. I would come back again

Stayed here for a couple of nights in April 2014. Bought as a deal via Living Social including a three course meal on the first night. We stayed on the third floor and had a great view out onto the river. Good place to stop and perfect for Kendal. Lovely dinner, great restaurant, good hotel, easy covered parking, good sized room and clean. Best buffet breakfast we've had for a while. The spa attached is also welcome.
Good all round and would stay again, even at full price!

Easy to find right on the side of the river parked outside 1 hour no return. Gated hotel car park next door. Easy check in room on 3 rd floor all going well. Lift not working oops, got to room large and spacious overlooking the river, no 3 pin sockets working back to reception,( fixed within 15 minutes) set up laptop to do some work wi if not working as in the computer can see the hotel wi fi but can,t " Shake hands" . Had a beer in the bar and barman re set the router to no avail. Easy atmosphere in the bar and plenty of activity in the hotel as it doubles as a spa. Did not eat in but had breakfast again pleasant atmosphere with plenty of choice. I slept like a log and apart from the little things ( lift now working) I enjoyed the stay. Excellent location for exploring the lakes and at£75 worth the money. Would stay again and would recommend well done to the management team and staff.

Room Tip: River view

Thanks for your review and for staying with us. We're happy you enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Thanks also for mentioning our staff as well. We are sorry the WiFi was temperamental whilst you stayed, but we're working on getting a whole new system installed in the near future. Thanks again.
